#Atago was at nearly every battle of consequence in 1942-3. Notably, she traded fire with #USSWashington and #USSSouthDakota at the second naval battle of #Guadalcanal, and returned to the Solomons for the Battle of Empress Augusta Bay. She later helped evacuate Guadalcanal's 11,700 troops. 5/10

The USS South Dakota launched in 1941 and fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942.

Its memorial in Sioux Falls outlines the entire footprint of the ship with artifacts placed as they would have been on board with a great little museum in the center.
