A perfect looking amanita that appeared to have just recently burst through the duff under an evergreen huckleberry. You can already kind of see the damage made by insects just barely peeking out from under the cap. The stark white chunky remnants of the universal veil on this one is perfectly distributed over the sticky light brown cap. Note the frill along the edge of the cap. A composite of 50 pictures were focus stacked to create this image.
After a little uncovering the shockingly stocky nature of the mushroom was finally realized followed by the realization it was already being consumed by insects and other tiny critters.
