A beautiful Questionable stropharia stands tall with its fuzzy stipe and light creamy yellow lustrous cap edged with frills hiding some light grey gills. The other fungi growing from a stem has a stark white stipe with a little bit of fuzz especially closer to where it attaches to the stem capped with a light grey cap covered in a dusting of spores or pollen. This image is a composite of 14 pictures manually focused taken in sequence that were later focus stacked. Lit with 2x LED lights.

A couple of #FungiFriends posing in front of their protector, a regenerating Western Swordfern clump.

The larger is a Questionable stropharia, Stropharia ambigua growing from the forest floor and the other, a tiny unknown fungi buddy, growing from a fallen stem. #Fungi #Nature #Macro #Photography

The lighting was absolutely perfect upon sighting, filtering through the evergreen huckleberry that obscured this gorgeous Gnome plant, Hemitomes congestum, largely from view and was expertly observed by Mia Sosa. But as soon as I got set up on it, the light all but disappeared. I ended up having to set up a few lights for consistent lighting in order to capture this shot. This image is a composite of 10 pictures focus stacked.

This was one of the first test shots I took with the natural lighting filtering through the evergreen huckleberry covering this gorgeous Gnome Plant, Hemitomes congestum. The lighting was moving too much anyway for focus stacking pictrues as I've unfortunately learned the hard way over the past few weeks.

First Gnome Plant sighting of the year!! #Myco-heterotrophic

I love me some non-photosynthesizing plants, because without chlorophyll they need #FungiFriends to thrive!

I can very mush so relate!

Hoping to be able to provide a few updates as it grows!

The chocolate tube slime mold are better in focus in this shot in the top right quadrant. Another group of the bright yellow slime mold is also visible peeking through the cracked wood in the top left quadrant. There are a few sporadic couples and small groupings of that appear to be 2 different species of slime mold in the bottom left quadrant. Note the tiny white fungi just to the right of the massive yellow grouping of slime mold. Of course there is also the gilled bonnet fungi in the center left. And tons of disco fungi on the lower half of the wood. I'm probably missing a few things but there is just too much to describe. A composite of 28 pictures were used to create this singular focus stacked image.

In addition to the static fungi there is also a tiny beetle present on the large mass of slime mold. An any is also present in the center of the shot hanging from the ceiling of the crack that might be difficult to spot in the darkness. Another insect is in the center right on the lower portion of the cut wood. As in the first shot there are near countless Linopodes white mites with crazy arms seem throughout the crack and even on the bonnet fungi. A composite of 25 manually focused sequential pictures were used in the creation of this focus stacked image.

The cut end of this fallen tree had an absurd variety of life! #AltText for details.

At least 4 unique species of #Fungi, 3 species of #SlimeMold and 4 species of #Insects can be spotted in these shots in addition to the moss. #FungiFriends #Macro #Photography

A perfect looking amanita that appeared to have just recently burst through the duff under an evergreen huckleberry. You can already kind of see the damage made by insects just barely peeking out from under the cap. The stark white chunky remnants of the universal veil on this one is perfectly distributed over the sticky light brown cap. Note the frill along the edge of the cap. A composite of 50 pictures were focus stacked to create this image.

After a little uncovering the shockingly stocky nature of the mushroom was finally realized followed by the realization it was already being consumed by insects and other tiny critters.

The first image below is the last shot but with all the instances of the insect I caught in one composite.

A few behind the scenes shots also. Another beautiful fungi nearby was also given some special treatment and I'll post pictures of them later.

The likely Questionable Stropharia has a frosty looking white stem, white frills that gird their yellow cap and shelter their whit/grey gills. There are 6 trillium here. One in the foreground with a flower that is newly emerging, two of a similarly small stature immidiately behind it. Another just emerging from the ground to the left of the fungi and a larger version in the intentionally poorly lit background. A composite of 76 pictures were used to create this focus stacked image lit with multiple LED lights supplementing the diminishing sunight as this was taken near sunset. Note the bits of pollen both on the trillium and the fungi. This was taken just prior to the more recent rains that thankfully knocked out a lot of the pollen that's been torturing me as of late.

This interesting specimen with an undulating cap provided shelter to a tiny fly seen near the top of the striped stem. A less easy to spot white mite can be spotted a few gills to the left of the center of the cap. A composite of 77 manually focused pictures went into this focus stacked image. The fly was static the entire time but the mite did move a few frames and I had help to pick the best version seen here.

A freshly flowering Pacific trillium, Trillium ovatum, seen sprouting in front of a decomposing fallen tree. Their bright white flower and yellow stamen sprouting from a trio of leaves a good 10 inches (25cm) above the forest floor. This one was one of the larger found in the group with others already flowering at 1/3rd of this one's stature. Found on an afternoon walk after a rainy morning which is why the leaves are covered in water droplets. A composite of 59 pictures were focus stacked to make this image.

A mature fungi with a light brown coloration and striped cap that is part of a trio shows their age with the chewed up looking cap and broken gills. We first noted this and its 2 siblings the week prior but passed on taking a picture at the time. I'm glad I didn't pass them by again. Love the bright green moss.

The background is significantly darker because of the more intense broad lighting that still highlights mainly the foreground. I could have adjusted the shutter speed to accommodate for this and reduced the lights power but I do like a dark background too. A composite of 79 images.

A gorgeous cut end of I believe a Red Alder absolutely covered in I assume the same species of slime mold in various stages from fresh growth, especially down below the bonus bracket fungi and to the right of that field of orange. The white fluff is the slime mold being consumed by another fungi. The right half of the log also has some decaying crust fungi. The slime mold when mature appears in large clusters of black. It was already late and I'd just lost my natural light so I didn't get any great profile shots to see if there were any sort of stems etc. That bracket fung was covered in interesting insects but they didn't make it through to post as they were moving too quickly for my shutter speed to get great shots to incorporate into the end image. All of that caped with some fluffy moss and surrounded by trailing blackberry vines. This image is a composite of 67 pictures taken with my Canon 70D focus-stacked at home. Lit with 2x large LED lights at 5,000K.

I'll have to get some good side shots over the coming days to help with ID. But any educated guesses from this one @regularslimeguy.bsky.social & @nuiipointer.bsky.social?

Woah! Yeah, the ones I've observed were significantly smaller bubblers, also I believe on Douglas Fir or Red Alder, so assuming those insects have unique hosts and those being N American specific species it definitely wouldn't be the same. I can't find my pics now to confirm.
Great mysterious shot!

I've seen that before too and was under the impression it could have also been insects but maybe that's just because it looked like the spittle from the insect family Cercopoidea.
