Today, I received an email from my water supplier #UnitedUtilities. They claim to be doing a fantastic job and are increasing water bills by 12%! Ofwat, this is criminal. UU reported a 6 month profit of £325 million recently. Invest this. No need to put bills up. Nationalise UK water!

When I contacted them, there was nothing they could do except suggest a water meter. With 3 of us in the house, I'm not expecting that to save me much, but I'll give it a try.

#unitedutilities are a disgrace... Increasing the rates again within a year well above inflation. It's disgusting that greedy companies are robbing us. It's a joke that everyone in the UK is controlled by multinational businesses that only care about lining their own pockets 🤬

Just got email with this year's United Utilities #UnitedUtilities water bill. Yay! Only up 15% this time compared to 27% last year.

Compounded, my 2026 bill is 46% higher than my 2024 bill.

How are these thieving bastards allowed to constantly increase bills by way more than inflation?

United Utilities signs £3 billion deal to refurbish key water pipeline Investing.com -- United Utilities (LON:UU) on Thursday signed an agreement to refurbish the Haweswater aqueduct, a critical pipeline that supplies water from Cumbria to 2.5 million customers in England. The refurbishment program carries an estimated construction cost of £3 billion ($4.04 billion) and will be executed by construction firm Cascade Infrastructure. The Haweswater aqueduct serves as a vital water infrastructure component, connecting water resources in Cumbria to millions of customers across England. This article was generated with the support of AI and reviewed by an editor. For more information see our T&C. With UU making headlines, savvy investors are asking: Is it truly valued fairly? In a market full of overpriced darlings, identifying true value can be challenging. InvestingPro's advanced AI algorithms have analyzed UU alongside thousands of other stocks to uncover hidden gems. If #UnitedUtilities are prosecuted, would that mean that, on conviction, their directors going to jail?

Of course not, there is no accountability and fines probably just end up in the water bills

RBC downgrades United Utilities to “sector perform” on limited upside Investing.com -- RBC Capital Markets has downgraded United Utilities Group Plc (LON:UU) to “sector perform” from “outperform,” citing reduced upside potential at current valuation levels, in a note dated Friday. The brokerage maintained its price target of 1,175p per share, compared with a closing price of 1,143.50p, implying just 2.8% upside. The brokerage said United Utilities’ recent performance and updated guidance no longer support an “outperform” rating. While the company presented a robust operational outlook during its recent Capital Markets Day, highlighting a £9 billion capex plan and a £2.4 billion investment program targeting a reduction in sewage overflow spills to 17.8 by 2030, RBC sees limited near-term catalysts. United Utilities (OTC:UUGRY) continues to guide for at least 100bps of return on regulated equity (RoRE) outperformance during AMP8. However, RBC noted the absence of a detailed breakdown of this outperformance and flagged concerns over expected outcome delivery incentive (ODI) penalties in FY26. The company had earned £128 million in ODI rewards during AMP7, below initial guidance of £200 million, and no forward ODI guidance was issued for AMP8. RBC forecast FY26 adjusted EPS at 100.7p, above consensus estimates of around 93p, supported by expected year-over-year reductions in operating costs. Despite the near-term earnings boost, the analysts lowered assumptions on ODI contributions for AMP8, which offset the valuation benefits from stronger bottom-line performance. On financial strength, United Utilities is expected to maintain gearing at about 64% by the end of AMP8, below Moody’s 68% threshold. Unlike listed peers Severn Trent (LON:SVT) and Pennon (LON:PNN), the company did not raise equity ahead of the regulatory period, preserving its balance sheet position. United Utilities also projects a nominal regulatory capital value growth of around 7% through AMP8, placing it between Severn Trent and Pennon. Dividend yield is forecast at 4.7% for FY26, in line with the sector average. In valuation terms, RBC applies a segmented sum-of-the-parts model, using a ~12x EV/EBITDA multiple for the regulated water business and 8x for non-RAB segments. The bank continues to use the carrying value of debt, with no fair value adjustments. PNN: is this perennial leader facing new challenges? With valuations skyrocketing in 2024, many investors are uneasy putting more money into stocks. Sure, there are always opportunities in the stock market – but finding them feels more difficult now than a year ago. Unsure where to invest next? One of the best ways to discover new high-potential opportunities is to look at the top performing portfolios this year. ProPicks AI offers 6 model portfolios from Investing.com which identify the best stocks for investors to buy right now. For example, ProPicks AI found 9 overlooked stocks that jumped over 25% this year alone. The new stocks that made the monthly cut could yield enormous returns in the coming years. Is PNN one of them?

Instead of bailing them out when they fail (like Thames Water), maybe the Government should take over NOW and use these profits to update the supposedly aging infrastructure?

UBS reduces exposure to U.K. water; downgrades United Utilities Investing.com -- United Utilities (OTC:UUGRY) Group PLC (LON:UU) has been downgraded to Neutral from Buy by UBS, citing limited upside potential unless there’s a fall in real government bond yields or a substantial improvement in allowed returns precedents. The bank on Tuesday also lowered the price target for United Utilities to 1,150p from 1,195p, reflecting a 20bps higher weighted average cost of capital (WACC) but also a 20bps higher return in future price controls from 2030 onwards. In the U.K. water sector, UBS’s top pick is Pennon Group (LON:PNN), with a Buy rating and a price target of 605p, based on its lower valuation. According to UBS, United Utilities is unlikely to see any earnings per share (EPS) growth beyond FY March 2028, despite a projected £420 million revenue boost in FY March 2026. The firm also notes that the company’s balance sheet has limited remaining flexibility. United Utilities is expected to reach a net debt to regulated asset base (ND:RAB) ratio of around 64% by the end of the 2025–30 regulatory period. Its shares currently trade at a roughly 7% premium to FY March 2026 estimated RAB, compared to a 17% premium for Severn Trent (LON:SVT) and a 1% discount for Pennon. The stock offers a forecast dividend yield of approximately 4.9% for 2026, aligning with the broader utilities sector, and reflects an implied cost of equity of about 8.7%.
