Essentials Page at muz4now – #GetToKnow ### Please share! * Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon * Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn * Share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads * Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky * Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email * More * * Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook * Share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit * * Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr * Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest * * Share on X (Opens in new window) X * Every few days, I see ads for link pages. “Just the essentials.” Do you get these all the time, too? ## Link Pages What do I mean by link pages? Companies like LinkTree and MySocialLinks are selling these pages for various fees (usually with a free option). Essentially, they are a place to post all of your (personal, brand, or whatever) websites, social profiles, and so on. While these kinds of pages make sense, I’m doing all I can to consolidate on my website. I see dozens of musicians using specialized (just for bands, etc.) and general (Shorby and dozens of others like the ones I listed above) link aggregation. If you are using one of these, it would be great to know how these tools are working for you. I checked out a few of them and decided to try making my own. ## Essentials R-Us So, I created a new “get to know me” page. I’m sure I’ll refine it for who knows how long. But I’m pretty happy with version one. First, there’s one of those photos of me you’ve seen dozens of times across the interwebs. After that, there are minimal words. Also, links to my main social networks — currently, BlueSky, Mastodon, Threads, and LinkedIn — with an added link to my very possibly overwhelming social network page. Next up, I get focused: links to my music release list, EPK (electronic press kit), and “now” page which lists almost everything I do. Next up is a bit more about my brand, muz4now™️. And the fact that I am the only ambassador, employee, and board member. Yeah, that’s right: my company is just me. ## Creative Outpouring Along with information about my brand, there are a few words about my varied creative arts. As a symbol of this, there’s a music video playlist with over 100 of my songs and instrumentals. Finally, I mention a few more creative outlets. Then, there are image-links to my six most recent blog posts. Last, but definitely not least to me, I mention a few things that have no direct relation to music or related creativity. My home life, my love of the outdoors, and my concern for humanity and the planet we live on. ## True Essentials That’s it. Just the essentials. Most of you reading this already know all of this. I appreciate your support! Meanwhile, if someone else asks “who is this Stan Stewart?“, you now have a place to send them. Thanks for getting to know me. ### Please share! * Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon * Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn * Share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads * Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky * Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email * More * * Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook * Share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit * * Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr * Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest * * Share on X (Opens in new window) X * ### Like this: Like Loading... ### _More for you_ * * * ### Discover more from Stan Stewart - @muz4now Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email. Where Real Online Music Reviews Happen ### Please share! * Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon * Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn * Share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads * Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky * Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email * More * * Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook * Share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit * * Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr * Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest * * Share on X (Opens in new window) X * I remember when online reviews meant you paid a fee. Sometimes, it was above board and sometimes under the table. ## Real Reviews That’s a big part of why you see so few reviews in my EPK. I never paid for any of those. Thankfully, over the years, there have been some wonderful reviewers who were genuinely drawn to my music or my online presence. Meanwhile, I think we are continuing to see a shift away from websites dedicated to music reviews. Instead, the reviewers are completely organic, leaving reviews on BandCamp and social networks. ## Where It Happens Some of those are from friends with a simple share… > Stan Stewart writes about the inspiration behind his latest EP ‘Cosmic Theories’. Available now on Bandcamp (link in comments). > > [image or embed] > > — John M Davis (@jdsampo.bsky.social) February 16, 2026 at 7:56 AM …or a lovely comment. > Listening now- this is EPIC! The intro to the first song had me completely hooked! > > — Rose Alaimo (@rosealaimomusic.bsky.social) February 3, 2026 at 1:03 PM > love that track Stan! Feels like the frontier of emotion > > — Edward Givens (@edwardgivens.bsky.social) February 16, 2026 at 12:11 AM ## And Keeps Happening Others offer mini-reviews… > And here's another from Stan Stewart, who is grasping the Zeitgeist and making the best of it. Some nice atmospheres here.BandcampFridaymuz4now.bandcamp.com/album/cosmic… > > [image or embed] > > — Insides And Outsides (@insidesandoutsides.bsky.social) February 6, 2026 at 12:36 PM …sometimes with a favorite track. > This whole ep from @muz4now.com is amazing, but I love the way the 2nd track, Cosmic Crust Theory, in particular transitions from haunting to hopeful and then braids the themes together like the Fates weaving our lives into eternity. bandcampfriday > > [image or embed] > > — Rod Hillen (@rodhillen.com) February 6, 2026 at 6:47 PM ## “Social” Reviews All of these are wonderful. Here’s a review that includes all the songs weaving them together as a story. And I have to admit that this holds a special place for me as a composer and songwriter. Thank you to @florgoth on BlueSky for this amazing thread. > JustListenedA new album with 4 relatively short tracks by @muz4now.com has just come out. This moves more into the Ambient area and is full with beauty, but also restless, uneasy bits.Highly recommended!More detailed thoughts below. 👇mirlo.space/stan-stewart… > > [image or embed] > > — florgoth (@florgoth.bsky.social) February 3, 2026 at 4:09 AM “A new album with 4 relatively short tracks by @muz4now.com has just come out. It sounded to me, like the strings were progressively pushed forward, just the tiniest bit. It felt foreboding and ominous.” > The second track starts with a drone and whale sounds, making me immediately think of an ecological theme. Following this we have possibly the most deliberately melodic part, even complete with vocals, before returning to the whales. This part felt sad to me and is probably the most musical piece. > > — florgoth (@florgoth.bsky.social) February 3, 2026 at 4:09 AM “The second track starts with a drone and whale sounds, making me immediately think of an ecological theme. This time the cello does not feel like a counterpoint, but serves as a foundation for the brighter sounds. Pretty much like a drone is used. Under all that, synths and vocal samples make up a (quiet) cacophony. > > — florgoth (@florgoth.bsky.social) February 3, 2026 at 4:09 AM “The third and shortest song heavily features flute and cello. Constant movement that is covered up and barely recognizable.” > The final track is called "Untranquil" and is ironically the most calm one. An atmospheric drone effect makes this feel spacious, with picked strings, an flute occasional flute and clacky wood or bone chimes giving it a very prominent texture. > > — florgoth (@florgoth.bsky.social) February 3, 2026 at 4:09 AM “The final track is called ‘Untranquil’ and is ironically the most calm one. Like random sounds you’d hear when walking through a wasteland; remains of things that existed before. To me, this was the emotionally strongest piece of the suite. Yeah, overall a sobering experience, fitting for the times we live in!” > This one feels empty, almost dead. Whether on BlueSky, Mastodon, or Threads, this weaving together makes for a wonderful way to post reviews. Sending appreciation to all of the friends, fans, and neighbors who make social networks the new way to support each other. I, for one, am incredibly grateful for this way of saying what you heard as you listened to a new release. Thanks for being a friend! I posted them on Bandcamp, BlueSky, and Mastodon. I’ll provide a link to at least one of each of those in my rundown here on the blog. More than anything, I want you to know what wonderful music there is beyond the million-sellers. Here are three superb examples. Each time, I am drawn into the technique and smooth stylings of his playing. This album felt like an extension of those experiences. This time, there was no visual connection to his performance. I think this made me appreciate his playing even more. _Favorite track:Crackling Near the Light Switch_ These are perfect tracks for “getting me out of my head” (in a good way). I hope you’ll appreciate these as much as I do. ## Richard Davies Pure beauty. The nuance of sax and other instruments — notably tablas which feature on several tracks. Richard is highly capable both on the saxophones and as a composer. Please listen to and download his releases. Many people will hear these tracks as jazz. I can hear that, too. I also hear them as a fusion of lounge, world, and mood music. Moods these bring up in me range from touching to expectation. Favorite track: Anxiety Hides in my Dreams. Richard is a musician’s musician, so he has some collaborations available as well. And I’m looking forward to adding more from Richard to my collection. I hope you do, too. ## Shuāilǎo 衰老 (Will) I’ve been a fan of this composer/songwriter for a while. I have the entire set of releases from this artist (via BandCamp) when Shuāilǎo was Omi In Vitro. This release is a beautiful continuation and departure from those releases as well as earlier (hard) rock songs under another moniker. I’ll be honest: this album is not my usual listening sweet spot. And yet, I already feel this album becoming one of my go-to listens. Will’s songwriting harkens back to deep compositional skills and powerful intuition demonstrated in those earlier works. For this release, Will chose to be in the moment. No click-track, no metronome, and no quantization; except for the ones in his mind and soul. My favorite track is “Collapse”. Well worth listening. I’m sure you _will_ hear what I mean. Highly recommended. That’s it for today and it’s a lot. Three (3) amazing musicians who deserve to be heard. Cover albums are can be even tougher to keep fresh. But, Walk Like A Cow sounds like a tried and true band who have already claimed their “sound”. ## What’s in a debut? When Mac Ritchey reached out to ask me to share the new cover album from Walk Like A Cow, I couldn’t resist turning that sharing into a review. Mac and his collaborator, Dave Boyd, have created a cover album that honors the originals. At the same time, they clearly are adding their own spice to this funky mix. First of all, Mac’s main instrument is the oud, and Dave’s is bodhrán. Theirs is not exactly a typical instrumentation for a rock album. But they _more_ than pull it off. Add to this their other Middle Eastern, Celtic, electronic, and “found” (check out the wine glasses on Sign O’ The Times) instruments, and you have a recipe for a delectable audible feast. Next, Mac is one of the finest recording engineers and producers I know. His skill in the studio comes through clearly in this recording. Check out Stan Stewart’s thoughts on the debut album by Walk Like A Cow. Click To Tweet ## Cover songs galore Selecting only six cover songs from the decades of rock had to be a bit of a needle-in-the-haystack search. When you download their album from BandCamp, you’ll get the details on how they chose these particular tunes and the story behind the duo’s name. Furthermore, they obviously know the performances of these songs by the original bands. In each cover song, you can hear how they have stayed true to those original versions. Ritchey and Boyd share singing duties in Walk Like A Cow. Sometimes, it’s obvious when the voice changes, but the lead voice shifts effortlessly between the two on the first song. (Someday I hope to pick Mac’s mind about his vocal tracking.) Here, even the unaccompanied singing feels natural and smooth. The album opens with a Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) song, “Oh, Well”. The great energy and superb recording kiss your ears from the first oud lick. I can’t decide if this is my favorite track because it’s the coolest of the six or just because I heard their sound here first. ## Cover album heaven The other five cover songs are also well worth your time (and your dime). Next up is “Everything I Do Gohn Be Funky” by Allen Toussaint. In this track, you’ll hear, among the array of instruments, a talkbox. (If that effect doesn’t ring a bell, think Joe Walsh on “Rocky Mountain Way” or Peter Frampton on “Do You Feel Like I Do”.) As you can imagine, there’s a great funky groove in this one. The Police were a trio that many musicians admire. Now, Walk Like A Cow is proving they’re in that number with a cover of “When The World Is Running Down You Make The Best of What’s Still Around.” They’ve created a great twist by recording this during the pandemic. ## Walk Like A Cow Walk Like A Cow turns to a more traditional song on track four: “Wayfaring Stranger” is often covered, but never with this instrumentation. Finally, the last two tracks are “Sign O’ The Times” by Prince and “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath. Check out Mac’s oud solo in that last song. Truly, this cover album is worth a download and multiple listens. These tracks are loaded with hidden gems that you simply cannot pick up on the first hearing. I think we’ll be hearing more from this duo. And I certainly hope so. Theirs is a sound worth hearing again and again. ### Please share! * Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon * Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn * Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads * Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky * Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email * More * * Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook * Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit * * Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr * Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest * * Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X * ### Like this: Like Loading... ### _More for you_ * * * ### Discover more from Stan Stewart - @muz4now Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email. I think it’s cool how Tidal shows several streamers (unless you have their app installed). Nice streamers get my vote.
