A hummingbird feeder hangs from a black metal pole in the backyard. Just to the left of the feeder is a young deer staring right at me from maybe 10 feet away, in among the rhododendrons and heather growing in a raised garden area.
Opened the door to the back yard earlier, to see if the hummingbirds were at the feeder, and ended up making a new friend 😀 #deer #urbanDeer #yyj

Photo of a Cedar Waxwing perched on a branch. It's hard to see features in this photo, because it was rushed. The grey brown bird with yellowish colouring on its lower chest and between its feet, has swept back feathers that stick out behind its head like a Cardinal's. It turned its head before the picture was taken, so that's not visible. The bird has a black mask extending from behind both eyes around and just above its beak. The black feathers are framed with a line of white. Its wings are a darker grey than its body with white highlights and the tail feathers have yellowish tips.
Photo of two young Whitetail Deer bucks, just getting their antlers. The antlers aren't very big yet and are still covered in velvet. One buck still has white spots visible on its reddish brown body. There is also a young doe visible to the left of the bucks. They are lying in the tall grass along side the walking path.
On our walk today there was a small flock of Cedar Waxwings following us. It was difficult to get a good shot. Just as I'd line up for a photo they'd fly off. I also found two bucks....and some doe💰😂🤣

Photo of a young Whitetail Deer fawn, hiding in the grass alone the side of the trail we were walking today. It's lying down upright. Its head is turned towards me to keep a wary eye on me. Its reddish brown body colouring with spots blends into the deep grass and weeds quite well. If it hadn't moved we probably would have walked past without notice.

The reddish brown colouring and white spots are clearly visible. It is watching me warily, but other than the tweak of its ears it doesn't seem too alarmed.

Photo of two Mule Deer does lying on the ground in an upright position facing us as we rode by the Medicine Hat College maintenance yard. They aren't too concerned with our presence. The deer are a greyish brown colour in this light and their large ears are pointed in our direction. Their black tipped tails are tucked in.

This photo shows the stark contrast between the brown dry looking grass of the valley edge and the deep green of the trees in the city. Although we've gotten some recent July rain, the area outside the city is fairly dry. We usually expect a wetter June than July and that didn't happen this year. That darned old climate change, that no one will admit is happening.

The delicate yellow petals are forming a bowel around the stigma and stamen of the flower. The stigma in the centre is green the stamen are yellow. the spines on the cactus are long and sharp. The large pear shaped pads are green.
