Les papillons #Urodidae ont développé des cocons en mailles, une adaptation unique mêlant protection et économie d’énergie. #Nature #Écologie presse83.fr/2025/09/27/c...
Hanging upside down from the only blooming flower in a group of small buds is a glasswing butterfly whose centrally-opaque wings are circumnavigated by a border of incandescent orange with a minor crown of white at the apex of the forewings. The body and eyes are marked with white and brown-black patches and stripes.
A stalked cocoon resembling yellow-green cutglass or cracked crystal mesh dangles from a mossy twig by a threadlike stalk. The white pupa of an Urodid moth is visible, safe within the spikey confines of its temporary changing room.
Suspended like jewels in the #rainforest. A stunning #glasswing #butterfly #Pseudoscada florula aureola hanging from a flower #Nymphalidae and a sparkling spun-glass-like mesh cocoon of an #Urodidae #moth #pupa. #RioQuijos Ecolodge #Ecuador
Net-like, stalked cocoon of a Urodidae moth hanging from a mossy twig in a Rio Quijos rainforest in NE Ecuador.
“Please ignore me!” Lovely #cocoon of a #moth in the family #Urodidae from NE #Ecuador. The thin stalk may provide protection from roving #ants & the open-weave, net-like cocoon is supposed to discourage fungal growth (it was wet when photographed). In 30 yrs, I’ve seen just 3 even remotely like it.
