#Rhinocerus #beetle! This #Golofa sp. beetle smacked off the sheet behind the light like a winged-golfball & dropped the ground. Males use their headgear to battle each other for mates. The claws on those long legs are prickly-sharp! #Scarabaeidae #Dynastinae #Ecuador #RioQuijos #Amazonia

Hanging upside down from the only blooming flower in a group of small buds is a glasswing butterfly whose centrally-opaque wings are circumnavigated by a border of incandescent orange with a minor crown of white at the apex of the forewings. The body and eyes are marked with white and brown-black patches and stripes.

A stalked cocoon resembling yellow-green cutglass or cracked crystal mesh dangles from a mossy twig by a threadlike stalk. The white pupa of an Urodid moth is visible, safe within the spikey confines of its temporary changing room.

Entomologist-photographer in green field clothes and hat leading over a plant on which he is taking a photograph of an insect, a second camera is slung over his back. He's standing in a dappled sunshine along a trail running through thick rainforest vegetation in Amazonia. There is a diversity of epiphytic plants hanging from the trees in all directions.
