Was rereading the ending of In Spite of the Inevitable, and I love the fledgling friendship between Shane and Razick so much.

Raz threatened him with cake if he didn't stop getting lost in his thoughts, and he uses it on her brother instead to fend off an unwelcome crowd of admirers

If you’ll excuse me, I’ve had enough fun for one mission. Any last requests before I kill you? You’ve been an unexpected pleasure, so I’ll make it quick. Painless, even. As a treat.” Vida felt her pulse freeze in her veins, but pushed the fear down. Her brain raced as she tried to puzzle her way out. “May I know more about you, first? Who are you?”

"Did you want me to grab you some of the bread?" Allie called from the food station, her plate already mounded high with an assortment of items. Claiming a seat, Dak began fiddling with his matchine, poking buttons and rearranging switches. "I want you to let me work, woman!" he shouted back, smiling. "Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to do this here," Felix mouthed to Lira, his Anemancy carrying the words perfectly as he shrugged to the quieter patrons of the cozy mess hall.

That's Shane and his people, so pretty sure you already have them!

Although they're still recovering from the trauma of it all in the published books (so character type 1 😂), but don't worry, they'll come into their own after that series. I have the drafts to prove it.

They’ve promised you survival, and you’ve accepted.”

I finished my chapter! I've been looking forward to this one all project, it's so emotionally charged.
