As a contract dispute between Cox and Verizon fuels the continued blackout of NBC-affiliated channels in Pittsburgh, Wilkinsburg resident Connie Raymond worries she might miss two major upcoming sporting events.
Mrs. Raymond, 76, and her husband were Comcast users for more than 10 years until they switched to Verizon Fios in 2018. But with WPXI-TV unavailable to them for nearly seven weeks now, the two are once again considering alternatives for their cable television.
For the Super Bowl, she said, “We can go out and see it, but that’s not the point.”
NBC-affiliated stations went dark for Verizon customers in Pittsburgh and Boston on Dec. 15, when the company and Cox Media Group, WPXI’s parent company, failed to renegotiate an expired carriage agreement.

Neither party has provided an estimate for when the channel will once again be available. That means Verizon subscribers in Pittsburgh could miss the 2026 Winter Olympics, which start Friday, and the faceoff between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8. NBC is broadcasting both exclusively.
What’s happened since the blackout?
Though updates have been few, both sides remain entrenched and blame each other for the impasse.
A Verizon spokesperson said the company’s focus remains on protecting its customers from the “excessive rate increases” proposed by Cox Media Group, while WPXI, in a press release, said, “Verizon has made little effort to get WPXI back in the lineup.”

Well I guess there's no olympics for me because #VerizonFIOS and the local Pittsburgh provider are still in a feud over the price for NBC channels. That #comcast offer is looking pretty nice.....
