• The #VetoInitiative has ensured that vetoes are no longer the end of the conversation.
• The GA can take action when the Security Council is blocked.
• We must also fully implement the Charter provision that a 'party to a dispute' shall not vote.
At #VetoInitiative meeting on the Middle East, LI:
• Reminds Council Members of commitments to take action to prevent and end atrocities
• Calls on all parties to the conflict to engage on the basis of the US peace plan
• Reiterates that there is no peace without justice and accountability
LI delivers a statement on behalf of 34 States, at meeting under the #VetoInitiative:
• #UNSC Resolution 2774 disregarded the expressed will of the #UNGA.
• Russia is a ‘party to a dispute’ in the situation in Ukraine, and therefore should have abstained from voting, under #UNCharter Article 27.3.
