I have been reading Mrs Gaskell's 'North and South'. Excellent, Will leave review soon. Would be great to see what other Victorian novels people are reading. #ElizabethGaskell,#19thcenturynovels, #Unitarians, #MrsGaskell, #Northandsouth, #Victoriannovels.

George Gissing in "New Grub Street" foreshadows Marian's sensitivity by having her remember Tennyson's lines in an early conversation with Jasper. But sensitivity won't matter, in the end, to a man who wants never to be troubled "by a thought of vulgar difficulties." #VictorianNovels #foreshadowing

We need to go back to the Victorian age of writing, where authors clearly had a special interest and would spend half the novel describing it while summarizing months of a character’s life in a short paragraph.

Just finished The Egoist by #GeorgeMeredith. Published in 1879. A rather verbose, labor-intensive read, but not without its rewards. I wonder if he’s read very much these days …

Did you know George Dibdin-Pitt’s 1846 novel "The Sea-Fiend" dives into gothic intrigue with a mysterious abbot at its core? A lesser-known gem that blends suspense and historical drama, it reflects the era’s fascination with ecclesiastical mysteries. (Q110207698) #GothicLit #VictorianNovels
