This is a single photo of the Chapel of Santa Catarina in Porto, Portugal. It is located at a busy intersection and very popular with tourists. So how did I remove everyone to get the ultimate photo? As I said, this is a single photo and I very carefully took 25 photos total, making sure the frame did not move too much as I did. Each photo was spaced about 10 or 15 seconds apart. Yeah, that sounds like a lot of work, but look at the final result and comment if you think it was worth it. Look at the next photo to see how these 25 photos were edited...
I opened Photoshop and selected FILE> SCRIPT> LOAD IMAGES INTO STACK. Make sure to check the box for ATTEMPT TO AUTOMATICALLY ALIGN. PS will open all the images as individual layers, after which you will need to create a mask for each one. Start with the top layer and paint on the mask where there are tourists you wish to remove. If the layer below is clear, it will look like the tourist vanished completely. Otherwise you will have to go to that next layer's mask and remove the tourist again. Look at my Photoshop panel on the right and you can see some of the 25 layers and how I removed the tourists. Look at the 3rd image for the final result... Sure, I could try to use AI or the SPOT HEALING BRUSH, but would either of those know what the blue tile looked like behind the tourist? How perfect or imperfect would it be?
