Graphic from the Patient Insight Institute displaying the statistic “82%” in large text. Below it reads: “Experienced financial difficulties in the past year because of expenditures related to medical care, insurance, cost of living challenges, lost wages and more.” A note at the bottom states the data comes from Patient Insight Institute’s 2025 national survey of patients and caregivers (n = 2,510). An NPAF notification bell icon appears in the top left corner against a multicolored textured background.

Last year, NPAF shared Adrian's story through his mother and NPAF volunteer, Christi. This week, she met with Senator Tim Kaine to advocate for families like hers.

Today's incredible news: Adrian has had his tracheostomy removed after 973 days!

Graphic from the National Patient Advocate Foundation (NPAF) featuring a large blue quotation on a white background. The quote reads: “What would higher premiums mean to us? We are already preparing (for increased costs) by selling our house and moving into an apartment. I’d rather not think of it because it would keep us up at night… But we are preparing for it.” The quote is attributed below to “– Janet M., Connecticut.” The NPAF logo appears in the top left corner, and the words “Authenticity. Connection. Action.” appear along the bottom.

We recently heard from @janetmarx.bsky.social . Her words are a powerful reminder of what medical hardship looks like in real life.
