The images of various elocution periodicals were so fascinating! #RSVP2025 #VoicesVisions

My own presentation was about how periodical sketches by Leigh Hunt and Dickens mediated the effects of London's urban development as it blurred spatial boundaries and class lines—and offer ways of reading how histories of civil unrest are overwritten by civic development #RSVP2025 #VoicesVisions

The advertising wrapper of Werner's Magazine features many products using the election teacher Delsarte's name - from Sloper's School of Oratory to corsets claiming to aid speech! Werner's in particular covered speech therapy and disorders. #RSVP2025 #VoicesVisions

Fascinating work from Ge Tang on photography of Chinese gold labourers in the journal South Africa. The 'modernity' of photography is used as a PR strategy to mask the slave-like conditions of indentured labourers in the Transvaal. #RSVP2025 #VoicesVisions

A cracking start to #RSVP2025 #VoicesVisions with Klaudia Lee's plenary lecture on Hong King's periodical press. So many great but short lived titles, and I love the idea that being bilingual has become a barrier to the study of some titles, rather than an aid - evading categories in the archive.

Amtrak’s Borealis beat ridership expectations in first year. Minnesota wants to build on its success. More than 205,800 passengers rode the line during its first 11 months of operation.

Looking forward to #RSVP2025 #VoicesVisions later this week! While a lot of int'l folks understandably aren't attending, it will be good to see many familiar US faces. Bonus, @andreauponavon.bsky.social & I decided to give the new St.Paul-Chicago train a go!
