Russia Volcano Update; M8.8 Earthquake Triggers Explosive Eruption of Krasheninnikov YouTube video by GeologyHub

The #Krasheninnikov #Volcano on #Kamchatka in Russia that some think the #megaquake set off, now has a #Volcanologist believe that it's likely to develop into a major eruption event

Repost from NPS VIP & volcano photographer #JaniceWei!

"Being a #volcanologist really is the hottest job in the world. Can you see two small green dots on the right side of the crater? Those are #USGS volcanologists measuring the height of the lava fountain and collecting other data."

Do you also think that major natural disasters and their aftermath deserve profound planning and mitigation? Can we deal with a #supereruption? Link to article :

Supereruptions, can they happen and how to prepare? How to grow food when a sulphur haze blocks the sunlight? Link to article ➡️🌋

Turns out Proffy Davey has a set of criteria, otherwise known as #censorship for #scientists .. unless you are in a job he approves of, you are not a #Physicist, #Biologist, #Volcanologist .. etc and he is still professional and the only one allowed to use colourful language and throw insults around

🧪Still 8.5 days till the next episode all about T-Rex! In the meantime I stumbled across this new article. And well being a #volcanologist by training, I thought of this and trace gases in #volcanic plumes.
+ could have implications for measuring/detecting GHG sources!

Also, I'm hoping that the professional & amateur #volcanologist and volcanophile will contribute. Would really be great to have observatory staff provide updates as they were on the "other" platform.

So who am I? The host that shows you #igneous is bliss!
A #volcanologist and #geophysicist who has turned their passion for #science into a #podcast. Episodes every two weeks!

Ps yes I am still figuring out the best way to use social media! 5 episodes in and much to #learn!!!!!

Hi as 🦋 newbie: I'm a #volcanologist & environmental scientist at Lancaster Environment Centre (UK). My research: volcanic conduit processes, rhyolitic eruptions, and #magma #degassing, also increasingly #soils and #microplastics. 3D rendering of an olivine crystal approximately 900 micrometers tall, 400 micrometers wide set to semi-transparent showing alignment of several melt inclusions inside (rendered in blue)parallel to the long axis of the crystal. Melt inclusions have a similar shape to the crystallographic axes of the host crystal. The three largest melt inclusions - approximately 200 micrometers longest axis - contain 1 or more spherical vapour bubbles (rendered in yellow).

A little thread of introduction!
I am a #volcanologist currently at The University of Manchester imaging melt inclusions trapped in olivine in 3D to investigate inclusion-host relationships that help us interpret records of deep mantle compositions & their impact on eruptive processes!
