Complete WBN Fighter of the Year History & Winners List
World Boxing News provides a complete history of the WBN Fighter of the Year Award, including every winner who has claimed the sport’s most consistent annual honor since 2010.
From the prestigious WBN Fighter of the Year Trophy to World Title Prospect and Young Fighter of the Year, the annual World Boxing News Awards have recognized standout boxing achievements since the website’s launch in 2010.
WBN Fighter of the Year History
Since 2010, the WBN Awards have celebrated boxing excellence. Initially, readers voted for the Fighter of the Year, but over time, the awards expanded to a ten-category honor roll, ranging from Fight of the Year to Young Fighter of the Year.
Key milestones in trophy history:
2010: First awards—Amir Khan named Fighter of the Year (certificate only).
2012: Physical trophy introduced; Carl Froch receives first fan-voted award.
2013: Gennadiy Golovkin wins his first of four awards; certificates are replaced with glass trophies.
2014–2015: Golovkin wins consecutively; WBN sends three glass trophies to commemorate the wins, then retires the design.
2016: New Gaudio Awards design introduced with the ‘three stripes’ logo; Vasiliy Lomachenko was the first to receive it.
2017–2020: Gaudio design remains; a smaller trophy commissioned for the original winner, Amir Khan. Winners include Golovkin (4th), Manny Pacquiao, and Teofimo Lopez.
2020: Upright trophy specially crafted for Floyd Mayweather as Fighter of the Decade (2010–2019).
2021–2024: Trophy upgraded alongside new Meris Designs logo; awarded to Canelo Alvarez (2021), Oleksandr Usyk (2022), Naoya Inoue (2023), and Usyk again (2024).
