We're hosting a 🎉 special #DPClinic 🎉around the toolkit on Monday, Dec 16, 5-6pm UTC, to tell you more about its use by and for community […]

This #WDPD2024 blog was fascinating. The concepts of deliberate erasure of content, creator intent, and the materiality of the digital were thought provoking. It was also great to have a researcher's perspective.

Another Friday, another #WDPD2024 blog post. I liked how this one linked the elements of physical and digital preservation, and how they support each other.

Friday afternoon, time to carry on catching up with #WDPD2024 blogs.
This one from the BFI is familiar in terms of how we think about supporting documentation. We also work with BFI to care for our films, so it's good to know what they are doing!

a book cover in bright shades of cyan and magenta, depicting various digital items - a floppy disc, a CD rom, an SD card - and non digital items - a tape, a spanner, a screwdriver, a pencil. The title says "Digital Preservation: Toolkit for Community Archives"
Digital Preservation Kit for Community Archives, launching for #WDPD2024 by the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), and designed to address the needs of community archives, as based on longstanding experiences working with them www.dpconline.org/digipres/imp...

This is familiar! Trying to remind people that a) the software is great and necessary, and b) the software won't solve all our problems.
I really like the approach to engaging staff across the organisation to develop workflows. #WDPD2024

This #WDPD2024 blog is summed up for me in the line “The fast parts get all the attention. The slow parts have all the power.”
There is something in how we need to move fast to keep pace with the environment and also take a slower, long term view.

If our purpose is about resilient digits, then we need resilient communities too. (More bogging by me) www.dpconline.org/blog/wdpd/cl... #wdpd2024 #digitalpreservation
This toolkit released on #WDPD2024 will be really valuable for working with community archives. Simply written and accessible for groups with limited resources.
Not just professionally - I think this will be useful for informal chats about #digipres

Spending some time today catching up on #WDPD2024 blog posts and resources.
Starting with this one from Paul Stokes on Digital Preservation by Stealth which makes some valuable points about reaching those in need of #digipres.

The DPC has been sharing and promoting a TON of great stuff today for #wdpd2024 including a post by @kellystewart.bsky.social on 2 sides to our #digipres community: slow and cautious vs fast and free. Which one are you? www.dpconline.org/blog/wdpd/bl...
Our Digital Preservation Librarian, Julie Shi, introduced the tape backup pilot at Scholars Portal Days in May!

A slide titled "Introducing our tape backup pilot" - a new initiative from the OLRC to mitigate risks to digital content.
An exciting ongoing project with the OLRC is the tape backup pilot! While the OLRC replicates files across three storage nodes, these copies are not independent. This pilot began in response to community requests for options to further mitigate risk to their digital assets.
#WDPD2024
The OLRC has five storage nodes at academic libraries across Ontario. In collaboration with staff at these partner libraries we recently replaced the network switches at all five nodes. This upgrade will improve network reliability, speed, connectivity & overall user experience.
