Compelling testimony from Cynthia Spiess on need to ensure #WaPA privacy policies aren't just in English. Cites specific number of Washingtonians where English isn't a first language. Will point out that #CCPA regs required privacy policies in different languages.
Also, many keep insisting #WaPA is an opt-out bill, but that's also misleading. It requires opt-in consent for sensitive data, which covers many of the examples folks are testifying about. We should argue about loopholes, but a blanket opt-in ain't all its cooked up to be.
Interesting testimony from @rtackhooper on ongoing litigation involving tracking pixels and health data being leaked to tech companies from hospitals. Doesn't want #WaPA to undermine common law consumer protections!
Stephanie Hager is testifying about lack of privacy protections around certain student records in Washington. (In case @ameliaivance and her army of student privacy folks want to wade into the #WaPA fight.)
The @BobFergusonAG's Office is "very encouraged" by improvements to #WaPA 3.0, appreciates the reasoning behind the bill's right to cure provision but does not believe this should go into perpetuity and calls for a sunset.
.@Reuvencarlyle wrapping up his introduction, hopes lawmakers will "gain an appreciation for not just the complexity but the importance of these [privacy] rights" in #WaPA. Here we go! I'll be flagging testimony that's new, interesting, or curious.
