A horizontal diptych shot from roughly the same location on the south side of Washington Avenue near Church Street on the U of M campus in Minneapolis, facing downtown. The left image was shot in the 1950s, and the right in the 2020s. The left image shows two trolleys and a bus on the south side fo Washington Avenue, with a pedestrian bridge in the middle distance and the Foshay Tower on the horizon. People are walking out onto Washington Avenue to board the nearer trolley, which is numbered 1300. The right image shows the yellow-and blue light-rail train of two cars passing under a pedestrian bridge and partially obscured by power pylons. The Foshay Tower is lost amidst newer buildings downtown.
In the 1950s Minneapolis had trolley cars, in the 2020s it has light rail. During the years between this same stretch of street was a hazardous high traffic zone thru the U of M campus that regularly killed or injured students. #trolley #transit #masstransit […]
