Black and white photograph taken this week of the outflow of one of the millponds on the River Rivelin. #Sheffield was an important hub in the industrial Revolution known as the Steel City. There were 20 watermills and 21 mill-dams over a 3 mile stretch on this river alone, the waterwheels driving the grinding wheels predominantly used to make cutlery and tools as well as optical glass grinding and corn milling. Now they are a haven for plants and birds and a beautiful walk for locals. The photo shows water cascading over wall at the end of a millpond. there is another retaining wall to the right and in the background the mressy foliage of spring trees and bushes.
