Doug Ford’s idea to fill in part of the harbour for jets requires an extension of 557m — longer than an Eaton Centre, four full subway trains, or twenty streetcars, just to reach the recommended runway for Embraer’s small jets.

Bringing Back the Don - 30 Years of Citizen Advocacy Image Aerial view of an industrial Port. Ken Dion, Project Director for Port Lands Integration, looks back on 30 years of advocacy to restore the Don River. POSTED: NOVEMBER 23, 2021 | PARKS AND PUBLIC SPACES, INNOVATION, SUSTAINABILITY, INFRASTRUCTURE BY: KEN DION This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of a report called Bringing Back the Don. The 1991 report was released by a Council-appointed citizen advisory committee, the Task Force to Bring Back the Don. It argued that it was time to recreate a natural mouth for the Don River, lost over 70 years ago when the Port Lands were created by filling in Ashbridges Bay Marsh. Thirty years later, we’re excavating the renaturalized mouth for the Don River, creating the new river valley and getting ready to start planting vegetation.

Poster for the new Marine Exclusion Zone showing map, logos of agencies involved, and large text block as follows: The City of Toronto, in partnership with PortsToronto and the Toronto Police Services Marine Unit, is piloting a Motorized Watercraft Exclusion Zone (MWEZ) at Hanlan’s Point Beach for the 2025 boating season. This new safety zone extends 200 metres from the shoreline along the west side of the Toronto Islands. It is designed to enhance safety and improve the experience for all water users by providing a safe area for non-motorized watercraft such as kayaks, canoes, and paddieboards, while helping boaters navigate more safely in a high-traffic area. Motorized watercraft — including personal watercraft (PWCs such as Sea-Doos and Jet Skis), powerboats, and sailboats — are prohibited from entering the zone, which follows the natural curve of the shoreline. Buoys will be installed in May 2025, and the Toronto Police Marine Unit will actively patrol the area to ensure compliance throughout the 2025 season. In addition, the City of Toronto has implemented a Reduced Noise Zone that extends 400 metres from shore. Sound carries much farther over water, and this initiative encourages boaters to keep music and amplified sound to respectful levels to support a safe and enjoyable environment for boaters and beachgoers alike. (continues in second image alt text)
This is a pilot initiative for the 2025 summer season. Feedback from all water users — including boaters, paddlers, and beachgoers — is welcomed and encouraged. + Comments can be submitted to ExclusionZone@TorontoHarbourSafety.com « A public survey by the City of Toronto is available throughout the summer at https://cotsurvey.chkmkt.com/HanlansMWEZ

WHO WE ARE Since 1957, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), as enabled through the provincial Conservation Authorities Act, has taken action to enhance our region’s natural environment and protect our land, water and communities from the impacts of flooding and increasingly extreme weather events — Ontario’s leading cause of public emergencies. As the region’s first line of defence against natural hazards, TRCA maintains vital infrastructure and provides programs and services that promote public health and safety, protecting people and property. TRCA mobilizes a science-based approach to provide sound policy advice, leveraging its position as a not-for-profit operating in the broader public sector to achieve collective impacts within our communities and across all levels of government. TRCA’s jurisdiction includes nine watersheds and their Lake Ontario shorelines: Carruthers Creek Don River Duffins Creek Etobicoke Creek Highland Creek Humber River Mimico Creek Petticoat Creek Rouge River The jurisdiction spans the following six upper-tier and 15 lower-tier municipalities, representing almost five million people (approximately 10% of Canada’s population):

Mark just to clarify, are you saying that Waterfront Toronto could have built the West Don Lands berm (upon which Corktown Common Park sits) for significantly less than Infrastructure Ontario did?
