2026-03-18-Note - Lee Perry Burnley based, I talk about learning code and the indieWeb, staying fit by running, cycling, swimming and bouldering, retrogaming, our allotment, and life with our dogs and chickens.

I'm going to build a second site at trackd.prry.uk to move activity logging out of my main feed. Realised earlier that I can use webmentions to backlink through to the digital garden on my main site.

After Madblog, how many of you would like #ActivityPub and #Indieweb support to come to GPSTracker too?

This is an idea that I’ve been flirting with for a while.

Like many Millennials, 10-15 years ago I was into the Foursquare-mania. It was the age where pubs would offer discount to their […]

@ricmac #Madblog has native support for #Webmentions, and unlike #ActivityPub they’re enabled by default.

I’ve tried to make it as simple as possible and avoid manual callbacks or special tags for mentioned links.

You put a link in an article, and when you save it Webmentions are sent to […]

@pfefferle Lots of love to you and respect for your time. Only reply if it is no bother at all.

I'm looking at ways to investigate who sends me WebMentions. I created an SQL statement to do that for me, as I assume no native method exists. I just wanted to check with you that this is a sane and […]

📢 **Webmentions made easy**

New article about my webmentions library.

You know that I love Webmentions, and I see them as the ideal future for truly decentralized peer-to-peer federation (or at least an important building block for it).

However, even though the #W3C recommendation has been […]

Not sure if the jetstream was just backed up, but it seems like the linking activity here really spiked since the 29th. What’d I miss!?

Queuebert is buggin’, a bit.

I keep sharing links to my blog, so I figured I’d update my blog to let you leave comments on it too. Now theres native commenting, with a real data model, clean front-end forms, and a simple moderation flow in the admin. Spam is filtered early with Akismet and Turnstile, so my comments aren’t […]

Man, Bluesky is linking it up tonight! I might have to turn up the concurrency on the queues.

(sneak peeks at two new projects in the works 🤫)

Sending Webmentions with a Simple Shell Script I came across a convenient way to send webmentions from my terminal using a simple Bash script. This page on the IndieWeb wiki includes a shell script one-liner. It references an older version of the webmention standard, but I was able to figure it out and get it working with my setup. I have the following in a file titled `send-wm`: #!/usr/bin/env bash my_url="$1" target_url="$2" curl -i -d "source=$my_url&target=$target_url" $(curl -i -s "$target_url" | grep 'rel="webmention"' | grep -o -E 'https?://[^ ">]+' | sort | uniq) The example had `rel="http://webmention.org/"` instead of `rel="webmention"`, which is the current standard. It also included an extra step — `sed 's/rel="webmention"//'`. I assume this was originally supposed to read something like `sed 's/rel="http:\/\/webmention.org\/"//'`, which would be necessary to make sure there is only one "http(s)" to `grep` for. At any rate, that part doesn't appear to be currently necessary. This script can be used as follows: ./send-wm <your_url> <target_url> The basic command to send a webmention using cURL looks like this: curl -i -d "source=$your_url&target=$target_url" $targets_webmention_endpoint This script inserts the provided source/target URLs into the statement, and the part inside the parentheses evaluates to the webmention endpoint from the target page. I also added this to my webmentions tutorial — I like to do that so all my webmention info is in one place. I regularly update this, and there's a table of contents to jump to specific sections. ## Future Plans I imagine it's possible to make a version of this that only needs the URL for the post sending the mention, and can parse out a list of URLs linked from that page and try sending webmentions to each, handling any failure gracefully. If I get around to doing that, I'll write another post and add it to the tutorial. Until next time! Also posted on IndieNews

Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud I recently read Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics, and I was blown away. This book came out in 1993, and I know that makes me really late to the party, as I’ve seen this recommended quite a few times, but I’ve never stopped to read. Joe Crawford threw this title out as the November 2025 IndieWeb Book Club read, and I’m so glad I joined in (both because I enjoyed … Continue reading Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud →

My personal website should have support for webmentions now Sort of a play-by-play timestamped collection of notes of me figuring out setting up Webmentions with my blog.

okay, i think i have some form of #webmentions setup running. Wrote about it here: chisenires.design/blog/my-pers...

But I might need to double check this after a few days :)) Not sure if this will actually send a webmention when I add a new blog post to my site. I'll see in a few days I guess XD

Webmentions anyone? Gerade wird wie verrückt in den Blogs von Webmentions erzählt. Und da ich das irgendwie spannend finde, mache ich damit auch mal herum.

Tjoar, da macht der Uhle jetzt halt auch einen auf #Webmentions. Erstmal nur gucken, was passiert. Aber das ist schon irgendwie spannend.
