This is a photo from several years ago of a mural in NW Portland honoring medical heroes.
A digitally enhanced image of a painting depicting Saint Joan of Arc, "The Maid of Orléans," by Emily Balivet. Joan is shown in shining armor, riding her gallant horse, raising her sword with a determined expression. The image has a warm, dramatic glow with red and gold tones. On the left, bold white text reads "Jeanne d’Ay de Domrémy." On the right, additional text provides historical details about Joan of Arc’s birth (c. 1412), her death on May 30, 1431 (at approximately 19 years old), her beatification in 1909 by Pope Pius X, and her canonization in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. This photograph was taken Sunday, February 23, 2025 using a Canon camera with a Lensbaby Velvet 28 lens for the BSKY Alphabet Challenge: Week H for Heroes. The streaks of colored light across the image are reflections from a string of Christmas lights shining across the glass of the painting. The image is credited to IsoSnw.Com. This is Panda. A rescue from the east coast, he drove across the US (well, someone else drove) and was delivered to us on the west coast. He'd endured a lot and was well on in years, but we had some wonderful time with him, a survivor, sweet soul, and yes, hero.

My heroes are scientists, especially women scientists. Barbara McClintock was way ahead of her peers (men) and won a solo Nobel Prize in 1993 for her work on maize cytogenetics. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekHforHeroes
this woman, with all she has working against her, stood up today and made me cry with her poetry. and when i spoke to her later, her smile and heart lit the whole world up. #alphabetchallenge #weekHforHeroes

Photo showing a vintage fire engine (fire truck) on display in a museum. The machine is a bright red, open-topped car with a hose mounted on the side, a ladder mounted on the top, and winching equipment in the rear. The museum room is a converted former stables and there is a wooden beam, supporting the ceiling, immediately behind the fire engine. On the wall behind, there is an axe, and various pipes and other items of fire-fighting equipment on display.

#alphabetchallenge #weekhforheroes I was privileged to hear Ken Burns speak about 10 years ago. Historians are heroes. I’ve always thought it would be a great job to be on his research staff.
No capes needed in order to be a hero. I have always admired the way my grandma treated everybody with warm, kind and heartwarming way. Never judged anyone. Hard-working and always willing to help.
That is a good goal for us all 🤍
