Combination of White Plum Blossoms (白梅) and Prunes Mume (紅梅/Japanese Apricot) seen here side by side, with still lotsa tiny buds left to pop before reaching their full bloom. Yes, i too am excited for their cherry blossoms here that everyone seem to be excited about come spring (late March to early April) .. BUT big but is the hopeless romantic in me much prefer Plum blossoms. i can’t explain it well yet admitting here plum blossoms have this historical somewhat poignant appeal to me than the cherries as probably influenced by the many ancient arts/paintings/and woodblock prints.. and likewise due to my love of Japanese poetry ー literary poems from the Masters like Basho; Kobayashi Issa; and the likes, dating back hundred of years agoー are somehow filled with PLUM blossoms as their main subject in their classic written works..
