Shaving With Taylor Of Old Bond Street Cream This week was a doozy. I had to go to the hematologist to get blood work done. Then, on the way back, an old friend of mine from high school called, whom I have not seen since the 80s. I worked with Brian and his brother, Paul, as a draftsman for their father’s company for about 4 to 5 years. I learned a lot, and we had a great time doing it. Brain got right to the point and told me Paul had passed away from his battle with cancer, and the funeral was this weekend. So after the shock of hearing that, I got ready to see him one last time. I need to get the gears in motion, so I remembered I had this tube of Taylor of Old Bond Street, which was perfect. No bowl lather, just a quick dab on the finger tips and messaged it right in to the beard, then I use the brush to create a nice face lather. Lots of slickness and glide, so the shave was effortless with no irritation. Post-shave feel was great, and the aftershave sealed the deal for a shave well done. A word about my friendship with the brothers, when I finally moved on to what I went to school for, I came back to modernize their business. I was dating a girl at the time who was selling Wang computers, and we modernized the accounting. Shaving With Godnej shaving cream Today I use Godnej Shaving Cream. If you have never tried it, let me say that for the price, it can't be beat. It has a sort of lemon scent, but not overpowering. Performance-wise, let's just say this has been in my den since 2014. Once I found it again, I noticed the plastic cap had broken, and the shaving cream was exposed to the air. Even after this long time, the shaving cream came right back to life without a hitch. If that's not worth $4.50, then I don't know what is. As you can see by the video, the shave was a good one. The lather got right into the beard, providing great coverage. The slickness and glide were very good, allowing for an irritation-free shave, and the post shave feel amazing. All in all, a wonderful shave. If you stay to the end of the video, you can see the new UV printer at work, creating product labels for Wet the Face. As soon as all the paper labels are gone, all of the products will be labeled this way. Shaving With C.O. Bigelow Last week, we had a nor'easter, and things got covered in snow all over N.Y. The LIRR stopped all trains to the city, which made my boss not a happy camper. I was able to come in on Tuesday, but the regular train schedule was all crazy. This made an hour-10-minute trip take 2 hours. So today I used C.O. Bigelow just because I know I can get this shave on and over with in a few mins because I'm exhausted. I wet the face and then placed a little in my hand and massaged it into the beard. This made a fantastic lather. This allowed me to have an irritation-free shave with no worries of nicks or cuts of any kind. Alien Shave The Barber Wet The Face Review Today we have something new from Alien Shave: it's called "The Barber." A cherry-scented Talow-based shaving soap. The base is called Genuine Formula 51t - Grass Fed Beef Tallow, Stearic Acid, Distilled Water, Shea Butter, Horsetail Butter, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Coconut Acid, Fragrance, Sodium Hydroxide. They also have a 51G, which is Drenched in Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, and Goat Milk, and a 51ct Soft Cream Top Shaving Soap. This comes in a very wide tub, which you can use for loading your brush with or, like me, lather it in a bowl. All soaps are different, and this soap makes an amazing velvet lather, not a crazy fluffy lather, but one that is drenched in creamy goodness. This is evident once you start applying it to your face. It's a great experience. Once I started the shave, you could tell how the soap, with its slickness and glide, was protecting my face, allowing my razor to go over trouble spots without the fear of irritation. Shaving with Elvado The first time I used this soap was in 2017, the second was in 2022, and now, in 2026, I'm using it once more. 3 times in 9 years, not a glowing recommendation, but with so many soaps and hardware items to review, this is what happens. This is in no way a reflection on Elvado's performance. Elvado Grooming, an Ontario, Canada-based artisan, returned to business around mid-2023 after closing in 2019. The brand relaunched with a new website, www.elvadogrooming.com, featuring new label designs and, as of early 2024, new scents like "Amalfi Breeze" and the return of "Woodland Reserve". They continue to produce plant-based, botanical-rich shaving creams and soaps. Closure and Return: Elvado closed around 2019 but returned to operation by June 2023, according to posts on Damn Fine Shave. New Products & Scents: The company relaunched with updated labeling and introduced new scents, such as "Amalfi Breeze" and "Woodland Reserve". Formulation: Elvado's soaps, such as the "Towerby" scent, are plant-based and feature botanicals like shea butter, cannabis sativa seed oil, and Abyssinian oil. Sadly, the website is saying it's on pause. Check it out - www.elvadogrooming.com I had no problems with lathering with Elvado. I created a rich, creamy lather that got right into the beard. This provided great coverage, and the slickness and glide allowed for an irritation-free shave. The post-shave feel was great as well. I'm not sure what is happening with the company, but something is going on. The on-and-off again issues might be a sign of trouble. I can't even begin to express the difficulty of finding all the things I needed to continue making this. One of the most requested shaving soaps and aftershave products we have in the Wet The Face catalog. Over a year of waiting and trying all kinds of alternative combinations, till I found the right one and everything started to click. I feel this new scent is closer to the original Old Spice than before. Same base formula so you know it's going to have plenty of lather, slickness, and glide. 1k Light Blue Two Pass Shave Today, we use our 1K Membership shaving soap, now rebranded as the 1K Light Blue, with a new name and label, same amazing scent. We have only a few left in white tubes, so now is the time. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue has been one of my favorite scents for some time, and when we finally reached 1K members in our Facebook group, that was the scent I used to celebrate the milestone. Now I get to use it for this shave, and if you haven't tried it, let me say you're missing something. I also used the 1K aftershave, and when I woke up the next morning, I could still enjoy the scent. Not too many aftershaves do that, but this one did. FAQ - Hey! What’s that razor you always use? It’s called Occam’s Razor Enhanced-Nano or O.R.E.N for short. I was a backer on Kickstarter and got in as an early bird for $45.00. Then it was released to the public for $125.00.
