Human hand holds a leaf (about 4-5cm long?) on which a smallish caterpillar (1-2cm long) feeds. Caterpillar is black with an orange-brown dorsal stripe and white dots along the side, with various clumps of hairs sprouting. Leaf is comfrey, so a bit hairy and quite soft.
Finding identification of this caterpillar to be harder than anticipated! Thought it'd be a quick job (is there a comprehensive resource that categorises most UK caterpillars by appearance?) but not that quick.
Location: Kent, UK
Foodplant: Comfrey (Symphytum)
