Because social media was expanding but I never used it. Then we elected an asshat president who uses Twitter as his mode of communication. So I came back and stayed for the politics.
THEN I discovered #StanTwitter and my life will never be the same.

Also, #WhyIJoinedTwitter was because, at first, it was considered "microblogging." It was a place for one-liners and creative expression. There were no marketers or pundits or news agencies in 2008. It was fresh and it was cool.
I thought it was stupid at first, then I blew my back out catastrophically and spent three months lying on my back. Twitter made being shut in and in pain "fun and entertaining." I had no idea it would one day give me real friends, income, and a bigger voice. #WhyIJoinedTwitter

I was desperate for news from a Twitter account called @MingyJongo about its spiritual successor to #BanjoKazooie. Project broke down in 2012, I expressed my sadness to the devs & @grantkirkhope, but it eventually got "rebooted" into @PlaytonicGames. #WhyIJoinedTwitter

#WhyIJoinedTwitter I joined in 2009 to aid my monitoring of extremists. I only began posting ca 2015 & only became truly active w/the #OregonStandoff in 2016. Since then I have been much gratified to discover there are ppl on Twitter who share my interest in right-wing extremism.
