It's been 35 years since #WilmaMankiller was sworn into office as the first woman Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. She focused on improving healthcare, living conditions, and education. Her brilliant leadership continues to pay dividends for the Cherokee Nation to this day.
Wilma Mankiller stepped down in 1995, leaving behind a stronger and more confident Cherokee Nation. Her legacy continues to influence Native leadership across North America.
