"In 2013, only 1 in 10 cardiac imagers were women; by 2022, this increased modestly to 1 in 7, mirroring representation in cardiology overall. Similar trends were seen across all modalities, though the representation in interventional echocardiography remained low - mirroring interventional cardiology. Additionally, nuclear imaging showed lower female representation compared with the other modalities." - Dr. Maria Alwan et al, Houston Methodist, USA

Sex specific inclusion in Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy. Computer simulations leveraged digital medical imaging and modeling to index QRSd to height rather than heart volume or mass to reduce gender disparity and offer a more precise, sex-aware approach to CRT eligibility.

Sex specific inclusion in Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy. Computer simulations leveraged digital medical imaging and modeling to index QRSd to height rather than heart volume or mass to reduce gender disparity and offer a more precise, sex-aware approach to CRT eligibility.

💡 CRT transformed heart failure care - but outdated, male-driven criteria often miss eligible women.

A 2025 study shows in silico trials & height-indexed QRS duration could make CRT more precise & equitable.

A quote from Professor Barbara Casadei, United Kingdom, given during the Heart Talk with the Global Community session RISE @ ESC Congress 2025: "Progress is not linear and we cannot take progress for granted for one second. So every little step we do forward, we can go back in a minute. So it is particularly important that we are intentional in everything that we do."

“Increased physical activity including taking more daily steps was linked to a lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease among postmenopausal women with a history of cancer. One hour per day of moderate to vigorous physical activity reduced participants’ risk of death from any cause by 40% and risk of death from cardiovascular disease by 60%.” American Heart Association, 2025

🚶‍♀️ Walking saves lives.

In postmenopausal women with a cancer history, 1hr/day of moderate activity cut CVD death by 60%. Just 5–6k steps/day showed the most benefit.

More movement = lower risk. Less sitting = longer life.

Quote reads: “While LDL-C lowering remains a cornerstone of CVD prevention, women face distinct challenges in achieving lipid goals due to biological, clinical, and healthcare disparities. Addressing these barriers, including improving timely initiation of statins and addressing gaps in care during pregnancy, is essential to enhance the dyslipidemia management and reduce CVD risk in women.” - Dr Carla P Rodriguez, Dr Semenawit Burka & Dr Erin D Michos

💊 Women face delays & undertreatment in statin therapy, despite equal or higher lifetime CVD risk.

A 2025 review shows pregnancy gaps & lack of sex-specific lipid guidelines are costing lives.
