Took a tour through a new institute on our campus today. The guy: "Haha, it's so funny how 'Christian' is such a common name here, you never know if it's one of the directors, that one group leader, etc.".
Me: "So you have more Christians than women?"
... He did not reply to that.

Physicists come see my talk and poster tomorrow! My talk is at 12:12 and is on adapting step up lessons for college. My poster is at 2-5 and is on the history of women in physics in Minnesota and my diversity in physics lesson. #physics #APS #WomenInPhysics
As part of our International Women’s Day series, we’re spotlighting Prof Daniela Bortoletto and her research in particle physics.

Throughout #WomensHistoryMonth, we are celebrating women who contributed to the advancement of science. This week, important women in physics. How many can you name? Visit awis.org/historical-women-scienti... to learn more. #WomenInPhysics
Frances Perkins majored in physics at Mt Holyoke College. After graduation, she taught science at a girl’s school before fully shifting her focus to worker’s rights. 🧪 #WomenInPhysics
🥘👩🏽🔬 Have you heard about the Lunchbreak Talks at the Faculty of Physics?

I really enjoyed participating in CCUW+IP (Canadian Conference for Undergraduate Women+ in Physics) this weekend @science.ubc.ca by sitting on a panel and judging posters. It was great to meet so many inspiring young #WomenInPhysics . 🧪⚛️🎢👩🔬🔭
"Women’s contributions to science are systematically undervalued until an external stamp of approval counteracts the negative effect of gender stereotypes on how their work is perceived."
Perfectly summarizes why we need more awards for women

Today I am giving a colloquium at the University of Minnesota on the history of women in physics and astronomy in Minnesota. If you are local it is open to the public. If you are a female alumna or physicist in the state and want to be interviewed or know more reach out! #UMN #WomeninPhysics
This is disappointing. The APS merged all of the regional Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) into one conference in Colorado for 2026. This will make attendance for undergraduates a lot more expensive in terms of both money and time. ⚛️ 🎢 👩🔬 #WomenInPhysics
Another of my favorite #WomenInPhysics is Donna Strickland, a Canadian who was the third woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics for her work on high intensity laser pulses. ⚛️ 🎢 🧪 👩🔬 🇨🇦
The best part is that these are modern #womeninphysics that I have encountered in my own journey!

Happy #WomenInPhysics Day! Marie Curie won TWO Nobel prizes, one in physics (1903) and the other in chemistry (1911). She was the first person to ever achieve this feat in addition to being the first woman to win a Nobel prize. 🐐
How about #WomenInPhysics? I like to see them separated out so the physicists don't get lost amongst all of the other types of scientist.
In honor of the upcoming #WomenInPhysics Day, let's create a thread of amazing women physicists. I'll start with one my favorites, Chien-Shiung Wu, who is best known for conducting the Wu experiment, which proved that parity is not conserved. ⚛️ 🧪 👩🔬 🎢
WOMEN IN PHYSICS DAY! In honor of the pioneering women in physics who broke down barriers to do what they love, we celebrate Women in Physics Day on November 7th, the birthdate of both Marie Curie and Lise Meitner. Marie Skrodowska-Curie (1867-1934) Radioactivity pioneer, two-time Nobel laureate A giant of science, Marie Sktodowska-Curie conducted pioneering research on radioactivity, a term she coined. She discovered two elements, founded two medical research centres, won two Nobels, and invented mobile X-ray units (dubbed petites Curies), saving countless lives in World War Lise Meitner (1878-1968) Nuclear physicist When Lise Meitner was a teen, Austria restricted female higher education. She pursued physics anyway, and 25 years later became the first woman in Germany to hold a professorship in physics. She helped discover nuclear fission, but was contentiously not awarded the 1944 Nobel alongside collaborator Otto Hahn. NOVEMBER 7TH
Dear Physicists and Physics fans,
I would like to encourage you to celebrate #WomenInPhysics Day this Friday, November 7th.
Why November 7th? Because it is the birthday of two of the most impactful women physicists of the 1900's: Marie Curie and Lise Meitner. 🎢 ⚛️ 🧪 👩🔬

A person standing next to a scientific poster titled “Background Reduction in the DEAP-3600 Dark Matter Detector.” The poster includes diagrams, graphs, and descriptions of experimental methods. The person is holding a coffee cup and smiling at the camera.
Cheyanne Monk presents a background reduction in the DEAP-3600 detector at Women+ in Physics Canada!
We’re now over halfway filled, and the data looks excellent - great news for future experiments like DarkSide-20k & ARGO.
