I knew many young women who sang along, beautifully, to her songs.
This says a lot about her, her music; and, the young women of the grunge era.

She was definitely on the softer side of grunge; but again, a driving force in a movement that is sorely missed.

In '98 she published a best selling book of poetry; and, continued performing until 2024.

She always seemed to me to be the grunge equivalent of Loretta lynn.

Her wiki page below is a good bio of her life and work.

Just a woman, her guitar, her voice and her first TV performance.

Jewel truly was inspirational to many young women; and, a driving force for the women of grunge.

She was 21 when she released her first album.

Good Wiki page on her and her life.
Don't just cry for the women of the world, stand up and shout with them.
There are no good guys, just criminals and soldiers.
Yeah. I'm in a mood.

Women of grunge.
Day 21

This one is still goosebumps.
By the time '97 rolled in, grunge was here.
Just look at the crowd in this vid. Fucking clueless as to how badass she is.
She truly was a child of grunge.

Crank it up and let it loop a few times.

From 1993

They may not be the best band; but, they make my point that most women of grunge were labeled as anything but grunge.

They are definitely not 'Alt Rock'.
Like them or not, they were part of the early grunge scene.

While being more pop than some, they still had a good grunge sound; and, represented the genre well.
A fairly little known band; that, I think deserves attention as a grunge band.
Bassist Gail Greenwood deserves cred for her enthusiasm.

I picked this vid; because, I almost guarantee you have not seen it; and, its pretty decent quality from '95

Getting named to top 500 albums by Rolling Stone is an accomplishment worth noting; and, a good reason to include her as an influential woman in the grunge era.

I like things raw; yet, she was as polished live as she was in the studio.
She got some decent airplay, at the time; and, continued to tour into 2023

Women of grunge
Day 19

From punk and riot grrrl to much more pop grunge, there were far more women in the scene than most realize.
Liz Phair is one of the later category; but, definitely an early 90s radio grunge sound.

7 Year Bitch

7 Year Bitch

While 7 Year Bitch is most often labeled punk or Riot Grrrl, which they were both, they were also grunge AF.
Like I've commented before, it always seemed to me that record labels just had to put woman bands in some kind of box, and not, give those bands cred in the larger sense.

The women of grunge didn't whine; like, many of their male counterparts.
They sang true; and many, had no fucks to give.
This song is a great example of this.

Women of grunge

Nineteen Fucking Ninety Three

Definitely punk; but, so much grunge grew from punk roots as to warrant me including all of the women of this band as women of grunge.

This song also just seems hyper relevant right now.

Record labels, and media outlets, always seemed to want to come up with new genres for women bands, especially for the women of grunge.
Who ran those labels? Hmmm.
Mostly white men.
They were Riot Grrrl, punk and grunge AF

Women of grunge Day 17

Kathleen Hanna, Kathi Wilcox and Bikini Kill were an early band tossed into another vague genre. Riot Grrrl
They were at the forefront of that; yet, they were grunge AF
Labels seemed to need to put women in their own place.

Like a lot of other grunge bands, they were there by the late 80s; and, had a much more punk vibe than anything labeled alternative, very much like Hole.

Being an all women band meant they were never taken as seriously as their music should have made them
That said, they are still playing.

I'd heard all sorts of disparaging remarks about them, back then
By who? White guys
