Messy first drafts aren't something to fix; they're something to work with. I loved talking about this (and more) with Michi Lantz on Making It. Writers, be kind to yourselves. tinyurl.com/y9dnmrxj #WritersHelpingWriters

For a long time, writing felt like guessing. Guessing what worked and whether I even had a voice worth developing.

After finally discovering some clarity, I want to pass that on.

Message me, and we’ll start with where you are and build from there.

World building is much more than describing what the setting of the story looks like. We want to know the protagonists backstory and get a sense of who they are prior to the inciting incident.

Writer’s Helping Writers
Act Like A Genre Specific Character
A writer needs to follow these steps to improve, for many reasons. Typing on a keyboard helps improve ten-key skills and boosts your typing speed, enabling you to work faster and more efficiently. These skills are useful today, but you might miss out on enhancing your handwriting and language skills because writing by hand takes longer and gives you more time to craft better dialogue.
The main idea is this: think, act, and write like a character from your content. Try to wear clothing similar to theirs, use the vocabulary they prefer, adjust your body language, and even eat a meal they might want. Now, sit down with a pen and write a few pages on paper from a notebook, folder, journal, spreadsheet, or whatever you prefer.
A cheap, quarter-priced pen isn’t something I even want to touch, let alone encourage others to use. Consider the feel, texture, grip, and smoothness of each motion as you write on your surface with them. I tend to use a rollerball, along with felt and fine-point pens that need their ink replaced periodically from an office supply store.
I admit I am a passionate pen geek enthusiast who loves collecting high-quality writing tools and enjoying the unique feel of each stroke. Though I haven't had much time lately, using a variety of pens, paper, and a quiet space is a treat. Are you willing to invest in exploring different writing tools to enhance your space and experience?
Finally, consider getting a small jar of your preferred ink. Use it in a way that suits your character or story. You can use a quill, a fine-tipped paintbrush, bamboo, horsehair, or whatever else seems right.

Have A Great Week!
