Now threading these... [from a couple weeks ago] Second paper acceptance of the year to #wundergrad Amelie L'Etoile-Goga! Her lovely quantification of #Mesodinium grazing preferences is coming out soon in The Journal of Phycology.
We love ourselves a Saturday night raining-in-the-lab party! 🤣😇😭 So grateful for #wundergrad Amelie for working late and catching this. @jsharbro.bsky.social's mop came in just in time.
And second paper acceptance of the year to #wundergrad Amelie L'Etoile-Goga! Her lovely quantification of #Mesodinium grazing preferences is coming out soon in The Journal of Phycology.
Grantwriting always gives you a nice perspective on the group's recent work, and I just am *so so so* excited about this crop of #wundergrad papers. Alan Sheu just submitted a lovely ms on mixotrophs in an upper ocean biogeochemical model that I hope will fare well in review. #figaday 4.245/n #year4
Out today in JTB! Grateful for Eleanor Caves and her brilliant ideas, #wundergrad Jonatan Kaare-Rasmussen (the #cubletito) who wanted "a quick paper" in math-bio, and the ever-clever Dr. Raine Detmer's simulation guidance. #figaday 4.244/n #year4 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
First paper acceptance of the year goes to #wundergrad Jonatan Kaare-Rasmussen (a.k.a. cubletito)! Excited to share his work on how fish behavior impacts cleaning station distribution when it's in press at Journal of Theoretical Biology!
The world is on fire but at least we have this lovely sticker design. Integral mama quail and her emotive babies sketched by postdoc Clarissa Frederica; mathematical accoutrements (pencil; coffee; math daydreams) and some aesthetics by #wundergrad Alan Sheu.
Ternary search algorithms, but in 2D? We're not sure, but #wundergrad Vela will surely figure it out soon. #figaday 4.053/n #year4
Two #wundergrad lab members submitted their first first-author papers in the last two weeks, and I feel like the luckiest PI in the whole wide world ✨🌟
When the #wundergrad says "Holly, you're drawing the model wrong, just give me the marker." Starting something new! #sciencewithfriends #figaday 4.031/n #year4
Initial data from a pilot undergraduate project showing how population size, cell size, and chlorophyll content change over the course of a growth curve.
Photograph through a microscope of a culture of algae.
New #wundergrad project and an inverted microscope that lets light through! #figaday 4.008/n #year4
More #wundergrad coding! #figaday 3.308/n #year3
Super proud of this former KU #wundergrad and excited to tune in!
Indeed, the #wundergrad figure is now wunderful. #figaday 3.274/n #year3
Another #wundergrad project is just getting started! #figaday 3.268/n #year3
Hahaha cannot wait to see the actual high quality rendering of my terrible zoom sketch by the #wundergrad involved. #figaday 3.267/n #year3
More #wundergrad work. #figaday 2.255/n #year3
We're #wundergrad writing! #figaday 3.253/n #year3
In 30mins today, #wundergrad and I pried open an old chunk of code, modified it, spat out additional data summaries, and plotted them to test a hypothesis. #figaday 3.238/n #year3
#wundergrad data part 2. #figaday 3.231/n #year3
Continuing the trend of avoiding my own data problems by working with #wundergrad data. #figaday 3.230/n #year3
Inspired by a guest lecture I gave in her iSci course, #wundergrad Emma Tutt was motivated to take on the data set for her iBSc thesis.
New smelter-impacted peat cores were taken last winter and working with Colin @mercury-ecohydro.bsky.social she completed the remaining lab and stats work.

To validate our model, we used #wundergrad Gina Barbaglia's previously published dataset--which also let us extract parameters representing 8 lineages of #Ochromonas. (3/6)
Almost a year of another wonderful #wundergrad experiment! Hoping to carve out some time this Winter break to make sense of this incredible dataset. #figaday 3.192/n #year3
A scientist stands behind a computer giving a presentation. The title of the presentation on the screen is “Benthic Biofilm Metabolism in UF Campus Streams” and there is a picture of a creek with trees along the banks.
A scientist stands in front of a computer with a presentation being projected onto a screen titled “Dissertation Chapter Ideas”. There are pictures of an irrigation sprinkler and a purple hydrant. The purple hydrant and pipes indicate the use of reclaimed water as an irrigation source.
Fun lab meeting today as #Wundergrad Aralyn presented the conceptual framing of her honors thesis on benthic biofilms of campus streams and new PhD student, Chamoda, presented her initial ideas for her dissertation focused on reclaimed water impacts on nutrient dynamics of stormwater ponds!
Another #wundergrad paper cranking along 😍 #figaday 3.157/n #year3
Guest fig today from #wundergrad Jonatan Kaare-Rasmussen. Love watching first papers come together: the worst crime is always a little too much enthusiastically included content & complexity! (Fig 3.122 is the sketch for reference.) #figaday 3.132/n #year3
I was explaining to the #wundergrad working with me that the model I use is written in Fortran, and I asked him if he has experience with Fortran.
His response: No! I'm not 70!
😂💀👵
Recent graduate #wundergrad Ronja Keeley designed a colourful and fun pipetting exercise for high school lab guests today! #figaday 3.058/n #year3
Training first-year #wundergrad Amelie L'Etoile-Goga to be my culture maintenance backup during my #minibattical next month! #figaday 2.349/n #year2
