Photogenic shelf cloud over St. Peter Böhl Germany now #shelfcloud #wetter #gewitter #wxbsky
Photo was taken looking southeast at dusk, looking across Lake Michigan during a thunderstorm. There is a very large lightning strike hitting the lake in the distance. The lightning bolt is a bright, white/purple with many little tentacles faintly visible. The lightning is centered within a rain shaft visible with the storm clouds defined on either side of it. Building are visible on the shore, to the right.
Roll cloud that was forming over Lake Michigan as thunderstorms moved through on all sides. Photo was taken at dusk so the sky and the water are all various shakes of gray. The clouds almost resemble lenticular clouds.
Storm arrives over the northwest suburbs of Chicago, creating a surreal sky that looked like something from a Steven Spielberg movie. Dramatic shelf cloud that suddenly turned the sky quite dark and created some light turquoise colors within the clouds as they filtered the sunlight.
Storm clouds move out over Lake Michigan at dusk, creating a dramatic scene with a high contrast of light and dark between more open areas of the sky or the areas with heavier cloud cover.

Photo of a storm that was approaching with dramatic gray clouds, and the rain can be seen falling heavily in the distance. It’s a pretty contrast of wavy lines that are vertical, next to the puffy, swirling clouds.

Photo of a house with a utility pole and wires in front of it. The Sunnis shining brightly on the house and the bright green trees surrounding it, and the sky behind the house is gray from a passing storm and there is an extremely vivid rainbow behind the house, arcing from the top of the frame to the bottom.
A little storm that passed through Northern IL, USA, on 7/10 and after the storm there was a very vivid rainbow.

Towering clouds including some mammatus, from a storm complex that created a tornado. The clouds are rising in layers that contain various colors from bright white to gray to buff colors.

Photo of clouds forming in a very warm and humid atmosphere as things start coming together for severe weather. The clouds look like cells.

Absolutely gorgeous views in Southern IL on 5/8, as storm clouds passed through. Not sure what the yellow flowers are, maybe wild mustard.

High precipitation situation in the southern #Alps and northern #Italy. Over 300 mm expected by the end of the week due to persistent southwesterly flow and advection of very humid air in combination with orographic uplift. Floods and landslides are to be expected. #SevereWeather #WxBsky #floods
The models (here: IFS) indicate a sustained change to wetter weather towards the middle of the month. However, it remains questionable whether the precipitation will really be widespread enough to ease the situation. #weather #drought #wxbsky
Major tornado outbreak underway in Texas! Stay tuned to your local weather station for warnings and take cover when needed. This is a very dangerous situation unfolding. Use #WeatherUSABsky to share footage. #Wx #WxBsky #Weather #Tornado #TornadoOutbreak

Radar data: low-level-rotation and mesocyclone detection (left), model hodograph (right). There's a rotation signal and a detected mesocyclone over northern Luxembourg, indicating the possibilty of a shallow supercell. The cell drifts to an area with increased low-level-shear and veering.
High-Shear-Low-Cape (HSLC) situation over parts of western/central Europe today. There is the potential for shallow #supercells and short ‘spin ups’ (tornadoes) from north-east France via Benelux to Germany. An interesting cell is currently located over Luxembourg. #SevereWeather #wxbsky
The visible satellite shows the snow ground cover along the Gulf and East Coast so well. Check out those Dendritic patterns along the rivers, higher elevations, etc. Amazing and so beautiful. #WXSKY #WXBsky
Forecast of the IFS Extreme Forecast Index (EFI, left) and Shift of Tales (SOT, right) for 24 Jan. EFI values of 1 indicate an unusual wind event für the British Isles and SOT values up to 4 indicates a potential exteme and destructive storm especially for parts of Ireland.
Potentially dangerous #storm for parts of the British Isles! Based on the Extreme Forecast Index of the IFS, even an extreme and destructive storm is possible, especially for Ireland. This is indicated by exceptionally high Shift of Tales (SOT) values of over 4! #severeweather #wxbsky
RIP Dr. Doswell #wxbsky
#wxbsky I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Chuck Doswell - A legend of storm chasing and severe weather research. He was one of my weather idols.
How am I only just finding out Tropical Tidbits does cross sections?! Bravo Levi (not on BS yet!) #WXBSKY
A snowfall warning has been released for mainland Nova Scotia. 15-30 cm is expected across the province (CB and Eastern Shore may see a change to rain) starting Fri eve/night dwindling Sat. For the Valley, Bay-enhanced/back-end snow could occur after the storm. (1/2) #Nsstorm #NSwx #NSsnow #wxbsky
Watching Sunday the 8th for a small NS-wide snow event likely 👀. EURO & GFS models have a widespread 5 cm across the province with higher totals inland and higher elevation. Up to 20 possible for CB Highlands. Details TBD... #nswx #nsstorm #wxbsky #wxsky #snow #novascotia
Rain currently on the Ann. Valley floor, but snow looks to be falling on the North Mountain, therefore likely South Mountain as well. Temps will continue to drop before rebounding for morning. #NSstorm #NSwx #Wxbsky
FINALLY! It's looking like across NS, especially west NS (Valley, South Shore, and Tri-Counties), the sun will be seen. Skies cleared for a little bit here in Kentville today but tomorrow looks to be more widespread--Not as cold either: 8C. #NSStorm #NSwx #Sun #wxbsky

While looking back on the mostly overlooked October 7th geomagnetic storms, I found this image that stuck out to me for how nicely the #Aurora is reflecting off my car. Wish I had the foresight to angle the car a bit more and get more of my windshield showing... #photography #wxbsky
Gloomy weather continues today with a stalled low off of CB. Highs around 7° with the majority of showers contained to the east, especially Cape Breton. Models show a low moving in this weekend; gusty winds and heavy rain. More on that later as its effects are still TBD. #NSwx #NSstorm #wxbsky
Same old forecast for tomorrow, with cloudy, dreary conditions expected. No widespread showers tomorrow with the highest PoP being in the eastern Maritimes. Clouds could break for a minute locally giving a glimpse of sunshine, but don't get your hopes up! 🤞

High temp in Canada right now is in Newfoundland. As much of the rest of the country prepares for widespread snow and very cold temperatures, the east coast will stay relatively mild thanks to a stationary low bringing up warmer air.
