Xenobots - Real Live Living Robots From Frog Cells Xenobots are AI-designed living robots made from frog stem cells with potential to transform drug delivery, tissue repair, and disability-related medicine.

Xenobots - Real Live Living #Robots From #FrogCells - #xenobots are alive, they move, heal, & reproduce. They sit at the intersection of #biology #robotics and #AI This paper explores what xenobots are, how they work, and why their future applications matter - www.disabled-world.com/assistivedev...

🧟 It's (sort of) alive!

In 2020, scientists at @tufts.edu created tiny novel living forms called #xenobots from frog cells. Now, they've expanded to add nerve cells and observe how they self-organize and alter xenobot behavior: https://bit.ly/4bLU1Zs

Engineered Living Systems With Self‐Organizing Neural Networks: From Anatomy to Behavior and Gene Expression

What would a nervous system look like if it self-assembled inside a novel being that hadn't faced a history of selection for its organism-level form and function? How would #Xenobots look & act, and what their transcriptome would be, with neurons?

Scientists take frog skin cells, remove them from the body, and let them interact freely. Instead of forming simple skin as they normally would, the cells spontaneously organize into tiny living structures called xenobots.

These xenobots:

• move on their own
• heal damage
• push particles or work together
• can even gather loose cells into new clusters

They are not frogs and not a known species — they are entirely new living systems.

A useful analogy: it is like taking trained office workers out of a rigid organization and discovering that, left on their own, they form an effective startup with skills no one expected.

Xenobots reveal that cells have hidden problem-solving abilities and can build new forms of life when freed from their original biological instructions.

Xenobots challenge the assumption that DNA alone defines an organism.
Instead, they show that cells behave like problem-solvers — adapting to new roles when freed from their original biological context.

They are a window into:

• how intelligence emerges in biological systems
• how bodies might be engineered without genetic editing
• how evolution might only be one of many ways to build functional living systems

Xenobots Exist 🤯

Cells weren’t told what to be, so they became something new. They are not a known species. They are entirely new living systems.

Xenobots, synthetic organisms, can evolve into new forms post-death, suggesting a “third state” of life. This challenges traditional views and hints at potential cellular consciousness, sparking debates among scientists. #Xenobots #Science #CellularConsciousness
