Session OverviewFind out more about FFT's Tutoring with the Lightning Squad programme and the research trial funded by the EEF. Tutoring with the Lightning Squad (TWL) from FFT is a targeted intervention to improve pupils’ reading skills. The EEF are funding a research trial so schools can access this with significant subsidy to help 72 schools implement TWL in 2025/26.TWL is a structured, online platform based approach to teaching reading skills. In a TWL intervention, the focus is a bespoke approach to the pupils’ needs, with the platform assessing their starting point and providing teaching and practice on: decoding, fluency and comprehension.FFT’s Tutoring with the Lightning Squad programme has been approved to be conducted as a Randomised Control Trial (RCT) by the Education Endowment Foundation. As EEF are providing funding to allow this research to take place, 72 schools will participate in the programme at a cost of £200 (86% subsidy). The programme is available to pupils in Years 3 or 4 (randomisation for the target year group will take place once schools have signed up).This webinar is intended to help schools find out more about TWL, including an outline of the programme, the training involved and the EEF research project.Who is this event for?This event is suitable for those looking to find out more about the FFT TWL programme and those that are keen to access this at a subsided cost as part of the EEF research trial. This could include Head Teachers and Senior Leaders as well as Literacy Leads. Schools must have at least two Year 3 and two Year 4 classes.What will the webinar cover?•The TWL platform•The TWL activities •An outline of the EEF research project•Key dates and information•How to apply for a place on the project•Q&A session
