My final review of the month is for #ReadingIrelandMonth26 and in it I explore the poetry of #Yeats @renardpress.com - kaggsysbookishramblings.wordpress.com/2026/03/27/h...
Sub Rosa Aeternitatis Innumerable as those Forgotten souls lost to Plague, siege, fire, and Famine - Latent-nesting in Earth’s Dendrons and ganglia - Rosa canina Erupts into a rash of Remembrance at Ascension Day’s approach. Believer legions – Salmon-flaked, stamen-plaid - Flush out hedgerows, sidings, Badlands in an Ambush of callow, Blushed fervour: Spring-loaded for Mouths aghast, aflame with Prophecies anew at Pentecost, spoken in scorched Tongues that Swell into meat-ripe hips as the Season eases into Equinox. Young Irish poet, Rose upon a Rood around his Neck, sees eternal beauty Impaled upon the crux of the World, the Rose partaking in Creation’s agonies - the Divine shifting into Immanence. Ephemeral, yet constant, with Ever-recurring cycles of Birth, death, renewal Embedded in Deep-Time Dynamics: Rosa canina - French-pink, flesh-hipped Transcendence. ©Jan Peters/Solivagant Wisdom, 2025

Nothing [in this realm] is quite what it seems.
That's what my Mothers taught me.

A Drinking Song
by William Butler #Yeats
Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That’s all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.

Happy St Patrick's Day, poetry world!
We argued which Irish poet to read today -- Heaney? Eavan Boland? Paul Muldoon? Hard to go wrong with Yeats:
"We are blest by everything,
Everything we look upon is blest."

I had a thought for no one’s but your ears:
That you were beautiful, and that I strove
To love you in the old high way of love;
That it had all seemed happy, and yet we’d grown
As weary-hearted as that hollow moon.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and
I haveth eaten too much ish
slouching towards bathroom
The ceremony of innocence is drowned

The heart’s grown brutal from the fare,
More substance in our enmities
Than in our love;' #Yeats
Never more true than now.
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand

O chestnut tree, great rooted blossomer,
Are you the leaf, the blossom or the bole?
O body swayed to music, O brightening glance,
How can we know the dancer from the dance?

We sat grown quiet at the name of love;
We saw the last embers of daylight die,
And in the trembling blue-green of the sky
A moon, worn as if it had been a shell
Washed by time’s waters as they rose and fell
About the stars and broke in days and years.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

“When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty...”
