Part of a small red shed on the left side of the photo. On the right side is a large, dark brown, male moose. He’s taking a slight pause from chomping on the willows around the old dugout. He has respectable antlers, though not as giant as older males sport. Frankly, any antlers on a moose are respectable and really just take the “don’t fuck with them” meter from 10/10 to 12/10.

Oh. Well. Yard #moose are back! Neighbours said they saw 4 or 5 heading into our back trees, and there’s been a mama with twins here and an occasional bull. So far I’ve only seen this fella, and I won’t go looking except “safety check”.

A young adult moose walks across a farm yard. The moose is a very dark brown, with long legs and a shoulder hump but no obvious horns. In the background, a hedge starting to leaf out. The day is overcast.

The same moose has walked closer to a large pale green grain car and a silver metal tank on an old wooden wagon frame (including wooden wheels with metal fittings and rims). You begin to get an idea of how big even the young ones are when you see them close to large objects - that smaller wagon is 7 or 8 feet tall.

Yard moose, yard moose, ‘tis the season for yard moose. The yard work will need extra caution again this summer! No longer #MoosePotential, it’s moose actual (that one’s for the #uglydogs 😂).
