A red milkweed beetle on a small leaf on a milkweed plant. It is in the middle of the leaf toward the top, looking up. It is surrounded by leaves that are three or four times larger and milkweed buds at the bottom. The beetle is red with two black spots on the thorax and six on the wings (three on each side), with the middle one being larger. The antennae are long, black, and curved outward. The legs are also black.

Striped hairstreak on a yellow flower. This butterfly has a brown body with white on the underside. Its head is mostly black with a couple vertical white stripes. The lower wing in the front is brown with grey nearer the body and squiggly white stripes farther out. At the outer edge of the wing are several orange spots. The upper wing is similar, but with no orange spots visible.
