Unfortunately it's being directed by the neoliberal forces who directed the #YimbyLobby. Basically it aims at promoting construction for its own sake, dressed up as concern about housing need & based on the myth that builders are desperate to build raw nos. of houses, held back by planning.
Yes, we know.
Developers don't want to build them.
Not enough workers or materials.
Financiers don't want to invest.
Sprawl-type development is highly destructive.
But... ministers have sold their souls to Tufton Street's #YimbyLobby.

Evidence? Even the sorts of fantasy building targets aired by the #YimbyLobby would only add a tiny % to existing housing stock, so any effect on prices would be lost in what is a very noisy signal.
Meanwhile new housing supposedly for owner-occupation is being sucked up by rental companies.
They've been operating in plain sight on social media etc. over their lobbying to destroy the planning system. Their #YimbyLobby inspired both the previous and present governments' attempts to degrade or destroy the planning system.

Commercial influencers, such as those from the #YimbyLobby, have been regular visitors to Downing Street for some years.
Meanwhile, here in the UK, the well-funded #YimbyLobby PR operation, listened to by central government, is advocating a big acceleration of #SoilSealing by #CarDependentSprawl which reduces groundwater recharge.
