Meanwhile, here in the UK, the well-funded #YimbyLobby PR operation, listened to by central government, is advocating a big acceleration of #SoilSealing by #CarDependentSprawl which reduces groundwater recharge.

So, trees absorb methane and carbon dioxide and soils (especially peat soils) absorb carbon dioxide. Sounds like excellent reasons to place drastic limits on #SoilSealing.

Building on land involves #SoilSealing which prevents it providing a range of vital #EcosystemServices. One of these is supplying the water we drink.

#Biodiversity concept is often misconceived & linked just to areas in natural environments. #Urban areas & cities, even if highly altered, host & impact severely on biodiversity, cause of #SoilSealing, buried rivers , poor & homogeneous vegetation, infrastructures, glass surfaces, pollution, traffic

And stop #SoilSealing and building in places which exacerbate the effects of extreme rainfall. We also need to accept the importance of floodwater storage areas in floodplains, healthy upland peat areas and forests and ensure they work properly.
Also need to plan for inundation by the sea.
