A calm river reflects a bright blue sky as it winds through a green valley. Leafless trees line the riverbank, with rolling hills and open fields stretching into the distance under soft, patchy clouds.

Wensleydale wasn’t always called that! The valley was originally known as Yoredale, after the River Yore/Ure that flows through it. Some locals still use the name and the ‘Yoredale Series’ of rock layers still carries the historic name.
