The Ure is the main river in Wensleydale - the only major Dale named after a village rather than its river - with the old name for the valley being Yoredale, which was named after the river that runs through it.

Hackfall is a 120 acre site of ancient semi-natural woodland in a steep gorge, complete with restored 18th century grottos and waterfalls.
