Back of a gray hawk with 3 horizontal black bands on its tail sitting on a redwood fence. Its head is turned around to look behind it (toward me). Yellow and green tamarisk foliage in background.

You taking a picture of my butt??? For the #birdoftheday theme of #youlookingatme from Rob Crank Photography‬ ‪@robcrank68.bsky.social‬. Hawks have to be the best choice for this theme. I think this is a Cooper's, but I'm far from an expert. Reno, Nevada, USA, Sept. 19, 2022.

This owl is clearly branching out into the modeling world. He’s looking at the camera like, "Hoo are you? Pay attention to my good side!"
He seems quite content perched up there, perhaps thinking he's found a "hootiful" spot with a great "view" (pun intended, look at those eyes!). He’s definitely not a bird to take lightly; he looks very wise and might just "have a hoot" telling you that you need to be quiet.

This great horned owl appears to be judging every single life choice made by the viewer with an intensity that borders on comical. With its massive, unblinking yellow eyes that do not move, it seems to be silently asking, "Are you sure you want that second slice of cake?"

Its prominent "horns," which are actually conspicuous 2-inch erect ear tufts, help it pinpoint the exact location of its next meal, like a rabbit or skunk, ensuring maximum efficiency in its judgment and hunting skills.

It is a heavily built, barrel-shaped bird, capable of flying up to 40 MPH in level flight, so it can quickly swoop in if you make the wrong choice.

The stern, brow-knit mien contributes to its appearance as a wise, yet perhaps overly serious, nocturnal raptor.

Owl of the sudden, I feel like you're challenging me to a staring contest. 🪶🌿🦉🦅🐦🍁
