Large pencil sketch of a woman in a hat with a large veil wrapped all round it and under her chin, looking downwards. Signed 'WH' and titled 'Ethel La Neve', lover of the murderer of Mrs Cora Crippen (aka Belle Elmore). 'WH' is William Hartley - we hold a collection of over 140 of his courtroom sketches.
Both the Crime Museum and Police Museum now contain huge amounts of papers and photographs despite both starting life as object-only collections. To confuse things further, we're also a reference library and most central Met records are at the National Archives!
