"I keep trying to tell you, NAME, but he's not a collie-" Out in the thicket of trees that encircled them, a low growl sounded from a too long face. From the corner of his eye, Mingi could see a ghostly blur of silky blond fur skulk from behind one tree to another on long, stilted legs, and he pulled himself up higher against the trunk of the one he'd collapsed against, gritting his teeth against the pain, before he continued, "-and he's not a retriever-" —the blur in the trees lurked closer, long mouth still open but silent now beneath its gleaming eyes as it moved through the darkness, limbs elongated almost supernaturally in the thin wisps of moonlight that snuck through the bare branches above, a moon that even at its apex held no pull upon it, a moon it ignored with steadfast disregard even as that light lit up the luster of its coat around it like a glowing shield— "he's a fucking wolfhound." NAME's face twisted in fear, then, and, bulging muscle coiled like so many springs beneath the sleek waves that hung off its deep chest and hulking frame like warning flags, the beast leaped from beyond the last barrier of the forest, and struck.
Later, as they walked out together from the misty woods, Yunho slowly licking the blood, scattered flecks of human gore, and (from when NAME had tried in vain to shift halfway through Yunho's teeth clamping down on his neck) werewolf fur, Mingi sighed up in annoyance at the moon before opening his mouth to say, "I did keep trying to tell him you weren't a golden retriever or a collie or some shit. Like, literally every time he brought it up, at all those accord meetings, every time, and he just—" Yunho grinned silently at that, and just knocked their elbows together as they walked out past the last copse of moonlit, mist shrouded trees into the crunching gravel of the trailhead where they'd parked. The goofy, friendly tilt of his smile, even on his significantly less elongated human face, reminded Mingi of nothing so strongly as a funny video he'd once seen of one of Yunho's true, fully canine distant cousins, visions of socks with googly eyes and singing muppets echoing faintly in his head, but the lazy, rambling walk as they neared their car, the quiet, latent power coiled in Yunho's lanky limbs, whispered of something even truer to something even deeper in Mingi's hindbrain. Something alien. Something uncanny. Something dangerous, even — especially - to a wolf. Mingi shivered imperceptibly, then, trying to shake it off, and reached out as they finally reached their car to tug open the door, not bothering to wait for the beep at a press from the fob. Anyone out here this late probably had a lot better, or at least shadier, things to do than trying car doors to find an easy steal, so they'd left it unlocked
lips, Mingi felt that uncanny shiver from before trying to make its way up his spine once more. He spared one last thought to NAME and his ignorance, his arrogance, all left to rot in a now unrecognizable pile at the foot of a blood splattered tree. "I kept telling him, not a collie, not a lab, wolfhound, you're a wolfhound..." He shrugged it off again, looking off across the trailhead parking lot to where the sun had begun to break against the already lightening sky, and distantly registered the sound of gravel crunching under bare feet as Yunho walked around the back of the car to throw his bloodied wet wipe into the trunk, then continued on before stopping to lean in, nearly through Mingi's window, with his forearms up on the top of the driver's side door. Mingi stared steadfastly through the windshield, key poised in the ignition, resisting (with a downright Herculean effort, in Mingi's humble and unbiased opinion) the urge to peer too keenly, too openly, at where that breaking light illuminated the planes of Yunho's face mere inches away from his own through the open car window, where it caught like summer sunlit cornsilk in the shining waves of his hair, where it caressed the long lines of the muscles, bulging slightly, in his arms, where they were braced above them both through the too thin barrier of the driver's side door. Yunho leaned in further through the window, the shadow of that strange, goofy grin still in the lines of his face and directed square at Mingi, before he finally replied, with a lackadaisical shrug, "His funeral."
