Re: BYU being determined to push the pace early in games
8 of the first 11 points against K State came as they pushed the pace. Love how almost every time they're looking to flip the floor early (passes across) to prevent the defense from loading up on the ball

Another OBU that doesn't result in a make but wanted to highlight the fantastic read Richie makes here. Knows UCF is in a lock and trail so short circuits the screen and goes directly to the corner. Feel like his reads on screens have really improved this year
#YzeGuyClips
Fun OBU set that springs Dawson for a three. BYU doesn't use this starting configuration much so a bit of a tell there but w/ Richie's defender in a lock and trail and the defense sagging to the paint, pretty straightforward to slip Dawson up through the elevator doors

Yet another way to get to Spain in the Texas Tech game. BYU ran this flex set quite a bit in the game but terminated it here with Spain from the wing. Rare low-impact screen from Trevin in the different context but Dallin still able to get downhill and get an open 3
#YzeGuyClips #BYUHoops
BYU's been using this little pitchback action to help Kanon get more downhill the last few games. Really simple thing but they've gotten to it in transition as well as set it up in the halfcourt a few times. Kanon's capitalized every time, either scoring or getting fouled
#YzeGuyClips
Here's another fun way to end up in Spain. Clear one side to get defense thinking two-man game, Richie comes up the gut for a handoff then reverses back into a ballscreen. Meanwhile Dawson's floated into the paint and now you're in Spain. Checkout how

Been really fun to see the different ways KY has BYU end up in Spain action. Don't get all the way to Spain action here but you can see it setting up (Trevin stopping in the paint to hunt the screen at the end). Two backscreens then a handoff put the switching defense behind
#YzeGuyClips
Here's a fun rep from BYU's switch happy defense. NC State does some good action to get into a Spain look with the guard (#4) vacating early to try and beat the switching defenders. BYU's ready for it though and brings up the weakside man (Trevin) to cover things.
#YzeGuyClips
BYU often switches early out of their OBU coverage when a man is going to the corner. If there was an action here with a man going to the corner, Richie would jump out and switch. With no action, though, he is free to just try and make a play. Nearly comes up with a steal here

Here's another fun tweak ATO from KY. Check out Fouss starting out in the corner then getting a DHO from Richie to turn it to Egor. Changes what the defense is reading, now with Fouss moving more dynamically and horizontal into the screen making his defender

Fun tweak from KY here on a play after a timeout. Moves Spain P&R over to the wing instead of middle. Little messy but kinda turns into a double ballscreen, now Egor has a lot more space to attack the switching big and get to the cup, swipe man is too strung out to affect the drive
#YzeGuyClips
Just a nuts pass from Egor here to flip the floor. Really good job from Dawson to screen his own man, knowing that his defender is supposed to be the one going out to the perimeter.
#YzeGuyClips
BYU countering Ole Miss post-doubles from the baseline with a pin-in screen on the weakside. Dawson is the screen setter here and Kanon is very comfortable shooting over low contests
#YzeGuyClips
Finally getting around to sharing this. I'm a big fan of inverted actions so it was fun to see us run a ballscreen for Fouss against Idaho when he was cooking. Great control from him, as usual, to calmly handle the double and hit Dawson for a wide open look at a three. Then

Think I mentioned it before but Richie's passing this year seems to have taken a step forward. Seems to be one every game now that pops for me. Check this one out, holds the baseline helper with the jump and his eyes then whips it to the wing (with the off hand!) for a hockey assist

I continue to enjoy seeing Elijah get more and more comfortable at the D1 level and flash his skills. The way he gets to this pass is real smooth in a tight situation. Feels the swipe from behind so goes high with the circle then turns his body enough to create space for the dump off
#YzeGuyClips
There are a lot of fun Richie clips so here's another one. Switchapalooza ends up with him guarding 4 of 5 players in one possession. His effort and feel is what you need to make the scheme work, fantastic deflection on the pocket pass then D's up to force a contested middy
#YzeGuyClips #BYUHoops
Egor looks before he catches and mishandles the pass and the play eventually stalls out. Despite that, there were three potential good looks in this possession, just didn't capitalize on them this time.

The offense is still coming along but I like the layers of actions that are being built in. Nothing comes of this particular play but I liked the possibilities that were there. Let's check it out w/ a quick 🧵

Always love me a good kick ahead pass, especially ones that flip the floor early. Elijah whips this one across the court to take advantage of the 2-on-1 on that side and generates a three pointer. Best game of his so far as he continues to find his footing
