Comic page. Zag's phone alarm rings indicating it's 7 in the morning, he sleepily mumbles "F-five...more minutes". He suddenly shoots up, throwing sleeping Hypnos off balance, exclaiming "Wait! It's today!". Hypnos finally tunes in, looking disheveled "Today? What's today? What time is it?", Zag hurriedly gets his bearings: "The party, Ny... your mom's party. I'm supposed to get the catering like now." Zag crawls out of the tree bush they were in, Hypnos follows: "Dope. You're coming? You should." Zag looks perplexed, "Uh...I don't think my dad..." he begins, but Hypnos cuts him off: "But I'll be so bored otherwise!" Zag chuckles, pulls out his phone and says "Alrighty." Hypnos pulls his sunglasses down: "Give me your number, I'll bother you to show up. Perfect! Prepare for onslaught of memes and pics of my drinks." he smiles. Zag laughs back, "Sounds like I should put this thing on 'silent' right away. I-I really do have to run." He runs across the park lawn and hops through the hedge to find his bike. "See ya later hottie!" Hypnos throws in his direction. He walks to a Poseidonbucks coffee shop and enters. "You cannot be bothering me here! This is an every-day problem with you, huh?", the woman at the counter is scolding a sad looking customer in line. Hermes is also waiting behind him, looking increasingly uncomfortable. Eurydice continues scolding the man in front of her "Actions beat intentions and I really don't want to hear how you couldn't get there on time. You've left me behind and didn't think twice, Orpheus!". Orpheus pipes up in defense: "Babe, I swear it just came out bad!" "Nope." - Eurydice cuts him off. "Please babe, all I think about is you, day and night." "Can't care." - she clips again. "I HAVEN'T PICKED UP MY BASS IN A MONTH!" Orpheus exclaims. Hypnos finally tunes in, standing behind Hermes "Oh my... This will be a wait won't it?". "They've been at it for 20 minutes already. Wanna go to the one across the street?" Hermes smiles back.

Hypnos is wrapped around Zag, holding on tightly, "You know...This isn't as bad as it seemed." The bicycle wheel suddenly catches his maroon skirt and rips the fabric with an unpleasant sound. Hypnos grabs onto Zagreus in panic and screams STOP!!!". Zag lets out a small "Ouch." Hypnos' skirt is now shorter than ever, he gets off the bike to assess and dramatically sighs "Oh. My. God!". Zagreus, looking down at the damaged wheel, says "We gotta pause so I can clear these debris out.". "You do you, Zag." Hypnos clips, "I can't have a bad night when Than knows I'm fending for myself." Zag looks at him in surprise as Hypnos steps over green bushes near the path they were on. "You're welcome to join my adventure." Hypnos smiles back, "If you're brave enough that is.". He pull out a rolled up blunt and lights it before handing it to Zagreus, "Gotta say, you don't look like the party type. Knowing your dad and all." Zagreus takes the blunt offer and takes a massive hit, tearing up in the process: "I *cough* totally am." Hypnos laughs: "Have you tried not holding it in so much?". Suddenly someone screams "THE PARK CLOSES AT SUNSET!". Hypnos drops the blunt and pulls Zag in the direction of a nearby bush: "Shit, that's Athena. Come on bro, she said if she sees me - my ass is grass! Stop coughing!". Athena walks by with a flashlight, occupied by a phone conversation: "...I a literally off hours. Cleaning up dad's messes, but off hours, brother...You shouldn't be calling this number, you're not a part of the force anymore. I am not, and I repeat, looking for a purple Rolls-Royce tonight. Making me look like a fool - scaring teenagers." Zagreus holds his breath, watching the woman walk by. Hypnos is already fast asleep on Zag's shoulder, as the other sighs: "Well, I haven't camped in a while I suppose."

He crushes the pack of cigarettes in his hands, continuing: "Yes, Than. I know where the back of the club is." He proceeds to throw his hands up in frustration: "Dude, it's not my fault you can't have fun! You ditch me all the damn time!". Zagnos exits the back door with loud music blaring in his headphones, Hypnos doesn't see him, still arguing on the phone: "I don't know, he won't answer my texts. I tried." Zag pull off his headphones and tunes into the conversation. "Seriously, bro. If I die, tell mom it's your fault specifically. Fucking rude! Bye!", Hypnos hangs up in frustration. "Uh, Hypnos?" - Zag inquires carefully, as the other barks: "What?!". He finally notices it's Zagreus and immediately changes his demeanor: "Oh hello, Zack!Spending your hard-earned stipend wisely? " - Hypnos teases. The shorter man laughs: "Ha! No, work security here part-time." Zag continues: "Didn't mean to, but I heard you need a lift?". "Oh, how generous." - Hypnos places a dainty hand on his own chest, "So where is your hot ride?" he asks. "Right over there actually!" - Zagreus beams pointing to a red bicycle covered in metal band stickers. "You're fucking kidding me..." Hypnos deflates, but still proceeds to get behind Zagreus on the bike. They take off and Hypnos loses balance exclaiming "Whoa-a-a!", and Zagreus laughs "Ha-ha! Hold on!"

the comic starts with zagreus walking in from offscreen, implying he just died and is back to the house of hades. hypnos is there to greet him and says: "killed by 'redacted' again, huh? you look like you could use a little nap!'
in the next panel, zagreus responds: 'i'll sleep when i'm de-- ... oh, you know what, mate? you're right." in the next panel, zagreus is sleeping on hypnos's lap on the chaise he bought for him. hypnos is also napping, covering zag with his fluffy cape.

The fan fiction "The Thousand Natural Shocks that Flesh is Heir To" was written for the Supergiant Hades video game franchise by Arya Greenleaf on the Archive of Our Own. This 4,008 word story is rated Explicit for sexual content including frottage and mutual masturbation. The on-screen pairing is Hypnos/Zagreus with vague references to other intimate relationships for both characters. Other story elements include references to mythology beyond that in-game and the effects of a boon from Sleep. Zag describes feeling of euphoria and sedation, although he is still in control of his faculties and is able to actively consent.
