So. Um. Nick Smith of @NZNationalParty just claimed that methane was many times worse for the #climate than carbon dioxide.

How does that square with his party wanting to delay setting a 2050 methane target until after 2021? #ZeroCarbonBill #ZeroCarbonAct

In Paris, I saw Pasifika states shake the world. I saw @TonydeBrum reshape global diplomacy. I saw #climate vulnerable peoples rally the world - and get 1.5ºC into the text. People of all faiths spoke out for #1o5c.

Weakening on 1.5C in the #ZeroCarbonBill betrays all that.

We need to stop arguing about targets and get on with cutting our emissions - which is something I know @ScottSimpsonMP and I agree on.

So, I hope his party can support the #ZeroCarbonBill once their proposed amendment fails!

This is the purpose of the #ParisAgreement. If someone tries to tell you something is a goal of the Paris Agreement and it's not in these words, they're trying to tell you something that's not true. #ZeroCarbonBill #ZeroCarbonAct

Weird to see @NicolaWillisMP try to pit business against @GenZeroNZ & @ss4cnz.

In just 6 days, over 140 businesses, community groups & prominent NZers have signed a @WWFNewZealand & Gen Zero open letter asking all parties to support the #ZeroCarbonBill without bad compromises.

I was in Paris. I wrote my thesis in law on equity and differentiation under the Paris negotiations. It's quite jarring to hear people calling for the #ZeroCarbonBill to more fully reflect the Paris Agreement while ignoring differentiation.

It's sad to see @nzsarahdowie's speech on the #ZeroCarbonBill pitting #climate action against the economy. The Stern Report was almost 15 years ago.

We know the costs of action are far, far lower than the costs of inaction.

I agree! That's the point. It's designed to give businesses stability in their budgeting and planning, to promote a stable, resilient economy where all Kiwis can thrive.

“These are very important times. If you have never lobbied a politician before, start with someone very junior and work your way up.” - @RodOramNZ calling for #ccbc19 participants to push hard over the next two months for cross party support on an ambitious #ZeroCarbonBill.

Listening to some of the #ZeroCarbonBill submissions from farmers is a cutting indictment of how badly some industry lobby groups have served their constituents. It’s like they’re attacking an entirely different, non-existent piece of law.

Down at Parliament this morning to present @humanrightsnz submission on the #ZeroCarbonBill.

3 points:
1) #Climate change is a human rights emergency, & limiting warming to 1.5C is the best way to fix that
2) Don’t block legal rights, like to the OIA
3) Enable policy coherence

119-1 vote in favour of the First Reading of the #ZeroCarbonBill.

Currently, NZ agricultural methane emissions are falling 1% per year. Yet @simonjbridges says a 10% cut in 10 years is too much? It's business as usual! #ZeroCarbonBill #ZeroCarbonAct

If you won’t compromise on #1o5c, @jamespeshaw, why does section 5ZK of the draft #ZeroCarbonBill allow other government departments to ignore the 2050 target and emissions budgets in their decisions?

That’s good - but we need to remove the sections that will let government ignore that target and #ZeroCarbonBill budgets in other decisions.

The @NZGreens / @nzlabour confidence and supply agreement commits to net zero emissions by 2050. The draft #ZeroCarbonBill excludes biogenic methane from this net zero goal.

Now @DamienOConnorMP suggests government will go for low end of methane goal....
